I really shouldnt be doing this before I've finished my current project, but I'm bored at work :p

So... what would you guys like to see in a custom chassis? Since I might maybe possibly decide to make more than one...

Something big with 10 HDDs, 20 fans and space for your extended family?
Or maybe something really small, but which can still effectively cool a dual GPU card?
Do you want to be able to host disco parties with the lighting from your PC, or rather go for a understated look that hides the power within?
Or perhaps a compromise on all the above...

A Zalman MS1000-HS2 with sound-dampening on both side panels :D

A side panel with space for 4 20cm fans
Back panel with 3 20cm fans
top panel with 4 20cm fans
front panel with 4 20cm fans

Front, side and top blow in, back sucks out.

Easily removable dust filters.
Completely tool-free design.
Built-in fan controller, even just with a single knob for controlling all case fans.
I would love a design that could effectively cool a multi-GPU setup without having to place a side fan... Iow, that air flow is channeled effectively over the two GPU's that cools them as effectively as a side fan would

An Antec P280 but with the looks of the Zalman MS1000 HS2. And back to the integrated sound damping - I dont like exposed foam. Must have a door, must be black, must not have a window.

Also I think it was the MS1000 that had the feature that you plugged your SATA cables into the back of the hard drive caddy, and then just pushed your drives into the caddy and it all worked. Need that.

This would surely become a standard for CF 6990's / 6990 + 6970. Heard they get really hot, melt sound cards etc.

:D

Melts sound cards? Why would you think they melt sound cards? do you think perhaps you are a bit anal and took a joke out of context?

I forgot to ask if you have ever ran a 6990 and 6970 together? Seems you know how much heat they produce so what brands did you use? I get the feeling you have never even seen a 6990 in action let alone a 6990 and 6970 :D.

Although you more than likely installed them with no side fan because you say a side fan makes zero difference :D. Have you tested that theory of yours?

Ya i am not fighting with someone who has never even opened a 6990 but knows about the heat, that is just ignorant so fighting with a person that doesn't know is a bit silly :D.

It would be a huge case but boy it would be epic :p Although i think it would just be easier to install water cooling :D. Also way more silent. You should replicate your box and start selling it. Then you can start mass producing it and shipping it across the globe :p or sell the plans to antec for 1 million dollars :D

Not that its necessarily a project for you...

But I'm very possibly looking at building my pc into a space in the desk, and also migrating my servers into similar enclosures.... then I can open up my office properly and not have to have the built in warddrobes across the whole of one wall.

Would you guys pay for having your Chassis wrapped in GFX?

Or would you buy GFX kits which you can wrap yourself?

Or Both?

Getting a modern GPU in such a slim form factor would be a challenge and a half! But definately doable...

That's why I suggested it, for the challenge. My wicked streak coming out. If you can design one with good/quiet cooling and post the CAD drawings on the net I reckon people will build it.

Please for the love of all things that is mighty, have dust filters on ALL the fans very important many case manufactures fail on this point alone., and if they are washable that would be awesome also. Also have the new front USB 3.0 header for the motherboard. 4 USB's (2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0) would be fine. It can do without E-SATA it seems like it never really took off. A built in fan controller for about 6 fans? Some nice lighting also maybe. 1 or 2 dedicated bays for SSD's, 5 to 8 3.5 HDD bays? and like 2 or 3 5.25 bays are more than enough. Maybe an attachable handle?
