Hi All

I am at Open Web and moved from Afrihost AGES ago because they just deteriorated in General.

However, with that said, I had no internet on Thursday and mailed Openweb and they tested and then deduced it was Telkom. I use WiMax - So I contacted Telkom and in a few hours it was sorted.

HOWEVER - With ALL of that said; I told Openweb which account I was using because a couple of weeks ago I had SLOWWWWWWWWW internet speeds and we did a few tests with a couple of different networks. Openweb DID try and help!!! BUT....

Well the one i was eventually using was great. When I questioned the connectivity on Thursday and said which account i was connecting with I was told it was the wrong one and was corrected. I changed my settings and GUESS WHAT - SLOWWWWWWWW internet speeds.

I DO NOT want to be on the IS network, EVER. because IS SUCK. So I am considering moving from Openweb now. Any GOOOOOOOOD, TRIED and TESTED suggestions? Anything NOT using IS!!!

Thanks.

Its possible you're getting throttled due to excessive downloads.
How many gigs did you pull in April.

On average how many gigs a month do you want to do?

I basically do between 3 and 15GB a month. At the extreme 40Gb and that was only ones in the last year!

No way you should be getting throttled doing 15GB per month on a 512. I have Gold Uncapped 384k and never experienced anything like throttling. E-mail them and they'll sort out the problem for you, might just need to be on a different backbone.

Have you established that it isn't your line? Post snr and line attenuation margins here so we can confirm that your line is stable syncing at 512kbps...

Openweb Gold accounts are widely regarded as amongst the best available...

I am on 512k Gold uncapped.

Then ask to be switched to a different backbone. You have Vodacom Business, Altech and BCS to choose from if you don't want to use IS.

I'm use the Altech backbone on 4MB Gold, get full line speed for everything, however P2P/news servers are blocked (I don't use 'em, so I don't care and I have an Afrihost account should the need ever arise :))

If you want to use news servers, go Vodacom Business. If you want to use torrents or news servers, IS or BCS, I think, are your only bets.

Just ask Keoma to switch you to a different backbone.

Mweb is a no no !

I will be moving to openweb at the end of the month !

If I was you, I would stay right where you are.

I have stayed with Opener for now. Looking around though but nothing really compares except I could go 3G with 8th for R199 for 10gb a month.

I have a friend using it and he is chuffed but at times I need more than 10gb.

Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e

Please just take note that the 8ta 10GB special requires that you sign a 24-month contract.

The other issue is that you will be paying OOB (out of bundle) rates if your 8ta 3G device is connecting to an MTN tower.
So that 10GB bundle is pretty useless if your primary area that you're going to use it doesn't have reception from an 8ta tower.
