Pre-Paid Data Bundle [PPDB] sizes

ADSL384 is only R152.00 now ... ? Impressive!
NO!!!

ADSL384kbits/s is ZAR111.90+ZAR152.00==ZAR263.90 for residential customers and ZAR148.68+ZAR152.00==ZAR300.68 for business customers.
Yes, sorry about the confusion. But the fact that the web pages are ready should tell us something....;) Not that I'd ever use the 'I' word again.......

Hi,

Sorry about the confusion - I meant the MWEB ADSL vs 3G HSDPA (Vodacom). I moved over a few months back and had to get rid of my ADSL for 3G HSDPA. I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure for my ADSL back then I was paying R500.00pm in total for 1GB (I said R490.00 in my previous post but I'm rounding in this post ...)

That's R150.00 (MWEB ISP), R100.00 (line rental) and R250.00 (ADSL rental). So in total I was paying R500.00pm for 1GB ADSL384 with MWEB. Every additional 1GB would only then be R100.00 and I'd buy data/bandwidth as needed. One particular month I had to buy another 3x 1GB at R100.00 each - so I payed R800.00 in total that particular month.

The comparison with 3G was generally for the additional costs of the data/bandwidth. If I hit my 1GB cap with my 3G at the moment, I'd be looking an additional R600+ to replenish :/ That's ontop of the R350.00pm I'm already paying. I was just wondering why the additional data/bandwidth was so expensive.

Agreed - if I keep within my 1GB I'm all good, but it starts escalating quite considerably after that. Maybe my prices are out as I haven't used ADSL for a while now!

I thought all additional bandwidth/data was purchased (for resale) from the same 'suppliers' and pricing for additional bandwidth/data wouldn't vary much beyond 10% ...

Relax :( I meant the ADSL portion only. It's R100.00 cheaper than what I paid and I was just taken aback!

MWeb overcharges for everything, other ADSL ISPs charge <=ZAR70.00/GB for shaped SAIX traffic, compared to that ZAR100.00/GB that MWeb was charging you, expect MWeb to be overcharging for HSDPA as well.

Why Max 2GB Prepaid Databundle?

Just wondering why both Vodacom and MTN have stopped prepaid databundles at the 2GB offering. I need 3GB a month and now I need to cough up R289 for 1 extra f**king GB? How ridiculas is that! Why cant they offer 3GB, 4GB and even cheaper like they offer contract customers?

It's sad that everyone is just trying to steal the little hard earned money we have  It makes me sick

Why not sign up for a contract? Or buy multiple 2GB bundles, isn't the price per meg cheaper than the 3GB bundle anyway? You could then use 3 2GB bundles every 2 months.

I dont need and cant afford 4GB a month. I need about 2.8GB a month so 4GB is kinda overkill.

I also don't want a contract because some months I may not need a data bundle and I also do not want to be tied to anything legally...

Thanks for the suggestion :)

You don't need to use 4GB a month though, the bundles are valid for 30 days, not a calendar month. So you could, for instance: Buy a 2GB bundle on the 1st, buy another 2GB bundle on the 20th, then buy another 2GB bundle on the 10th of the next month.

That way you effectively get 90 days to use 6GB rather than 60 days if you'd bought 2 3GB bundles and you pay less per MB.

Didn't the bigger bundles become available a couple of days ago though? There was a thread on the forum about it.

That was my understanding as well. The smaller ones are not available yet (there was stuffup with posting them together with the big ones), but the bigger ones are now the same as contract, up to 10GB I believe.

I still don't see the logic of buying a 3GB PPDB while the price per meg is higher anyway, assuming you're going to be buying one a month and its not a once off purchase, better to just buy multiple 2GB bundles seeing as they don't expire at month end.

I make sure the 3G pricing is highlighted at every occasion...;)

Nope, it is gone again. I just logged into www.vodacom4me.co.za and all options are:
500MB
1GB
2GB

And also this morning I loaded a data bundle using *111# and it also had only those 3 options.

Yip. Just check Vodacom4me with my Prepaid number, and only those 3 are there.
