Hi there guys

I have a net gear ADSL router. I am running a 4mbps line.

I recently changed the MTU settings due to my ADSL being slow.

Now, when I do a speed test, my internet connection seems to be fine but it shows my ip address location in Durban north? when I'm based on Johannesburg?

How is this possible.

Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ and check there. If that shows Durban North as well, then the IP is probably geo-located to the ISP. Sites don't do physical tracking of location of your ADSL router, it just looks up what latitude/longitude is published by the ISP and uses that. Internet Solutions lines show Joburg no matter where you are in the country. Telkom shows either Cape Town or Joburg. I'm guessing Durban North is probably Openweb.

Thanks guys. It sorted out now.

Also I'd like to know what causes slow speeds on ADSL? I'm running a 4mbps line with telkom and axxess as my bandwidth provider. Speed test shows my deserved speeds for a 4mbps line as well as a low ping level (about 16-24 m.s.). but yet the internet feels slow. I swapped routers, I even reset it to default factory settings and still the internet feels slow. I even changed devices which connected to the router and all same speed internet, yet speed test shows good speed for the above line.

I even removed and exchanged filters for my line and still the same issue?

Please advise, contacted telkom and no feedback
