[RELEASE] DStv Now KODI Add-on

@cavedog

A take-down already has happened....

Hence why it's hosted on anonfile now :)
Trying to stop it is a waste of time and makes them look like a-holes.

Just pushed 0.9.13

Update to matts latest common
No major changes
Just a few fixes behind the scenes

Wow. What a great add-on. Especially with the IPTV merge. Absolutely great.
Thanks very much

Yes... and? Is there no way we can do this? What is requied to include it in a repository? Or a specific one?

It requires hosting it on a website which means bandwidth (implying costs here) and also the risk of it being shutdown by multichoice as it was when Matt started out.

Hosting costs is minimal as it can just sit behind Cloudflare cache.

The main issue is that the repository needs to point files being hosted somewhere.
eg. a personal server or github

Both can easily be served take down requests

I wouldn't worry about not getting automatic updates.
If your happy with it as it is, then you don't know what your missing anyway.
Just check for updates if it stops working.

Yes that's OK for me, but not for the wife and kids if I'm not at home. Wife would have mo clue how to update manually.

There is another option, but might not work for everyone.

Using resilio sync (previously known as bitorrent sync) you can share the files using a code and then people can have it update automatically like that. Only problem is that will make your public ip address known which can still be used to track you down including all users. Unless maybe done over the tor network.

The other idea is, hosting the repository on the tor network, then people who want to auto update, must just make sure they have tor installed so that the tor repository can be reached.

To the developer of this awesome app do you have any idea why streaming 1080p is so much more cpu intensive than streaming at 720p.

On my s912 box with coreelec streaming at 1080p maxes 3 of the cores out at 100% causing skipped frames. When streaming at 720p all the cores run at an average of 40%

I have this s912 box and none of my 8 cores goes above 50% when streaming one of the supersport channels in 1080p. Also no frames skipped and no buffering. I have a 50/5 fibre line.

That's really strange as I did a fresh install of coreelec on my box and also have a 50/50 fibre line which is wired.

Here's a link to my box https://androidtvboxreview.uk/em92-tv-box-review

If you bring up debug log onscreen display (e.g. ctrl-shift-d), what is the second line (MEM) usage?

Mine is like avg 1450000 KB of 2811376 KB available but I have 3GB ram on my box where yours is 2GB

Mine shows 1478624/1784148 KB and CPU-KODI 147%

Might be that this cheap Chinese box does not have enough ponies to decode encrypted 1080p content :-)

If I boot into android and try playing a 1080 channel there the picture immediately freezes ,but audio continues to play.

Just pushed 0.10.0

Matt now hosts a DStv EPG with his other epg files.
So, I have updated the addon to use that instead of generating itself.
It makes it MUCH faster.

Before:
7x large slow API requests to their servers (total 13-14MB)
Now:
1x cloudflare cached request for gzipped epg file (total 2.6MB)

Also, it means everyone using the add-on isn't spamming the DStv servers
Should keep them a bit happier.

His EPG also has a bit more data.
eg. Thumbnails for shows when available

Get it here:

NOTE:
You will need at least his latest (at time of wrting 0.3.0) IPTV Merge update for the EPG to keep working.
Force an update on his repo to install, or manually install from below:

Excellent addon
Personally picture quality is great
Tv Guide is so convenient
Don't even bother using the Dstv now app loaded on my Hisesnse Tv or Mibox S
Keep up the good work!

Yes I think DSTV should pay you guys to keep on developing this app for Kodi as it's a legal app requiring login, but I guess they would rather have their customers have to pay for it or buy additional certified devices.

I mean the simplicity of the app coupled with the convenience of the EPG all within Kodi is really awesome.

Hi guys, I live in an area where my download speed is not that high, so I really appreciate the option available to choose my own video quality. Thank you to Matt and all the guys that have made this possible! Aso I need some help with the TVNZ OnDemand addon, live channels working but not ondemand, or catchup it gives this error, "access to this resource is forbidden by access policy" Is tvnz ondemand, or catchup not availabe to watch when connected to nz vpn? If this is not the right forum for this issue, can this message be forwarded to Matt? Wll appreciate it. One last question, can the passthrough option in the addons be explained to me please! Thank You!
