Router Battery Backup

I Have a related question, and sorry if this has been answered previously in the thread....

I am looking for a cheapish wi-fi range extender that can be powered by a DC UPS (Already have the UPS), my existing extenders are of the type that plug directly into a wall.... so no power brick/supply.

Most, if not all, routers have this functionality right out of the box. Not the biggest fan though. Extenders sux.

My router was only getting 3 hours on micro UPS. So I disabled 5GHz and just used 2.4GHz.
It lasted 20 mins longer than usual, but still not 4 hours :cautious:

I came here to post this tip, and found you coincidentally just mentioned it. Disabling one of the WiFi antennas is a great way to squeeze more out of a mini-UPS.

Interestingly, in my case, lowering the output level made no discernable difference.

I have a Ratel 860p and sometimes after a 4 hour loadshedding it seems to have switched itself off and I have to manually press the green button to get it to switch on again.

Number 1 concern is that the 4 hour loadshedding is completely draining the battery. I only have the ONT and router plugged in. Surely I should be getting more time than 4 hours?

Number 2 concern is that I read that even if it runs out it is supposed to switch itself back on when the power is restored.

Any ideas as to what's going on here?
Seems my 860p is also caput after almost 2 years. Oh well. Thanks eskom

Switches off immediately if the power goes off
Not too clued up on doing repairs on something like this
ah okay that sounds like a dead pack to me. Still haven't fixed a dead unit most them i fixed had dead packs/cells.

Battery just unplugs from the pcb and cells is not difficult to get the difficult part is to get someone or a electronic shop close to you to spot weld them all together again unfortunately i am in cpt side/

My ratel 860p life is declining as well.
Thinking of getting a power station for the Asus router and ont.
Need one to easily last 6 hours...Not sure which one to get

These cheap 18650 cells in all these units is no good not much cycles/life out of them compared to the name brands. Only time will tell on the LiFePO4 cells. Replaced some cells on units that is not even 6 months old and the weight is like half of the brand names :X3:

Nothing wrong with using a holder. But those wires is a bit on the thin side :). For the small units it will work they more or less uses the same thickness wire. The bigger units uses thicker wires

Easier to solder thicker wires than to solder batteries

2 years with our loadshedding - you've simply worn down the batteries a bit and now their capacity is less.
Depending on the cells of course, but I bought my first one in July 2020 ... still lasts more than 6 hours with two routers attached
