Router Battery Backup

Excellent device for 5V applications. Any evidence of 12V versions being also available?

Not that I could find on RS-Components. You could use a DC-DC Step-up converter I guess, or the Geewiz device which is 12v out of the box.

Quick question.

If i got one of those 12V mini UPS Power bank supplies and a DC splitter cable to power my Asus router and fibre ONT, would the power supply be sufficient enough to power it and if so, for how long?

Mini UPS

edit: a 2A powerbank will be able to power a 1A router for one hour, so I'm assuming that it will only power 2 routers for one hour, still not sure if that splitter will work.
Is anyone using one of these?

It depends on the actual voltage of both devices as well as what current each draws. Assuming both devices are 12V and each device draws 500mA, the power bank will provide 1 hours backup.
Mixing voltages muddies the water. It is not a good idea to do it. If you have two different voltage devices, then you need to sort that out or use two power banks
Currents in parallel add up.

I am using the 3700mAh 12v 2A version but through a DC-DC step down converter (to bring the voltage down from 12V to 7.5V) so that I can run my baby's baby monitor through loadshedding.

I've done a couple of typical 2 - 2.5 hours loadshedding sessions, it works really well.

The parent unit take rechargeable NiMh batteries so that part is fine, it was just the baby-unit that I had a problem with.

Are you able to determine how many batteries there are in the unit?
Typically these devices use LI-Ion 16850 cell/s but will have a DC to DC converter to produce the required output voltage.

cost of the charger ?
Saw it at Checkers today for R399 - I'm pretty sure I paid substantially less last year...

FWIW my setup ran my router today for 7+ hours while the power was out so I'm happy with it.

Not really - it is a fairly solid brick like a laptop charger. I can probably weight it and give dimensions of you want.

Geewiz has these 12V mini UPS on backorder and I just received a notice that their shipment was sent back to China because airlines don't want to fly Lithion Ion Batteries anymore, so I have to wait 3 weeks for special cargo!

Not don't want to, but can't because the regulations do not allow it without very strict packaging which pushes up the cost which makes the product too costly to sell.

ugh that's a pity. I guess buying from Gearbest or Banggood will likely run into the same problems?

Finally got my backup setup going. Collected it from Communica Samrand in Midrand.

Total cost R636

Communica is well amazing. Lot's of cool stuff there wow.

Instant switch over no interruption in power to the router or the ONT when switching between the battery and mains. Shows a green light when mains are on and red light when on battery power. I inserted the battery and connected the 2 routers with 2 dc plugs and it's running fine. I'm testing battery life now to see how long it will last but not sure what percentage the battery was from the shelf but it would be interesting to see how long it can last.

Some pictures.

I don't have a multimeter though :(

Let me see if I can get one.

It would be great if you could check the manual to see if that cut off voltage is adjustable.

If it is then I did not see it.

I kept it on battery from about 11am and it's still on the battery now.... Decided to switch the power back on. On battery for 7 hours I think that is enough to cover most loadshedding schedules.
