Router Battery Backup

Apologies. The Cube doesn't have 240V, my bad.

The Omnipower SPS has 240V, 3 X USB 5V, a USB QC3 outputs, car-12V, solar or AC input and a peak of 1200W but no PoE capability. The brochure says that the unit does 396Wh. It is more expensive than the Ratel or the Cube, about R3500 but it can do so much more as you can run normal AC devices.

Just got back from Sinetech having bought myself the Ratel 8100 to keep my internet up while load shedding is on. Only issue is that the split power chord provided fits the Fibre box power fine but my router has a much smaller power pin.

Measuring with a tape measure the Ratel power pin diameter is about 5mm and the pin that my router has is 3.5mm.

Guessing I need something like this: https://www.takealot.com/lindy-5v-dc-power-adapter-cable-2-1mm-female-to-1-3mm-male/PLID32845592

First question is the above the right size? Second question does anyone know where one can buy one over the counter near Boskruin? Expecting load shedding at 6 and have something I really need the internet up for at 7 (online course).

Lastly the power supply is giving 12 V so I am guessing the 5V cable in the link is insufficient or is it generally fine?

If you post the router model somebody can probably advise on that. Worst case cut your existing cable off the router power supply and make up your own cable. Use a multimeter to ensure you have the polarity correct.

Ok, then you will use the 9v/12v port for the TP-link router and one of the 12V ports for the SADV box. Then you will need this setup for the injector and SADV box (https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/router-battery-backup.993476/post-26792166) unless you can get hold of a male to male DC cable.

Ordered a Ratel 860P from communica on a Friday , and was delivered Monday.
I enquired with communica and geewhiz about the dc male 2 male cable, or even an extension male to female to use with the small splitter cable, and no luck.

Anyone bought an extension DC Male 2 Male cable and can give me contact details.

What a mission none of the shops sell them and I also ended up ordering online.

Best check both your router and ONT are 9v or the splitter cable won't work.

This was my rationale as well - a simple plug and play solution with all the necessary cables and connectors in one box to keep the internet connection going. Also didn't want to fiddle with POE and searching for the correct cables / adaptors. The Cube has worked seamlessly during the recent power outages - time will tell how it performs over the longer term.

When I went to the Ellies store, I took the chargers for the ONT and router with to confirm that that Cube could match the plug sizes and the power outputs.

My thinking was to have the Cube for the ONT / router, and then a separate backup system for the laptop, monitor, etc instead of trying to over-engineer everything on one system. In my setup, the ONT / router is on a shelf high up on the wall at the other end of my study, so it made sense to go with a stand-alone unit that could also be placed on the shelf instead of running cables across my study to connect everything to one back-up source.

You have the wrong equipment for the job. The batteries in these things are not meant to be cycled over any length of time, but only for a short while like 15 minutes to give you time to shut things down. This is why the batteries are damaged now. Better to get one of these devices from this thread.
