SA iPad pricing: How do we compare?

It's not the price that's a problem.
It's our income that's the problem.
Dollar per capita is low and that's just for the skilled workers.
Most people who are working earn just enough to get buy.
Simply put, our buying power is really low.
For every 1 iPad sold in SA they must sell 100's in the US

That also mean that even if Apple did have to dump stock (which they don't) we don't have enough people in a position to buy said stock.

BTW. I want one, I just don't have R4400 to spare any time soon.

there's a reason its so competitively priced, CORE is getting stock that most likely wont sell anywhere else in Europe and UK, the reason? The imment arrival of the IPAD2

This sounds like core. Why the realease now at the last hour before the new one arrives. It reminds me of Vodacom who delay phones for 'testing' but then release them at UK launch prices. They save a fortune.

The ipad is basically a touch screen mini-laptop without a keyboard and with much lower spec hardware.
Don't know why one would really need one. If you have a smartphone you have much more mobility and similar processing power. If you have a laptop then you have much more processing power and on top of that a laptop is capable of doing a lot more things for the same price.

If you have an ipad, you'd still need a phone and a PC/laptop. I see very few situations where the ipad would actually be the preferred device to carry around.

You clearly haven't actually USED one...

The only thing the iPad is lacking in my opinion is a multi-user setup.... if it had that it would be the ideal coffeetable computer really.

I don't have a use for it either. It doesn't need a keyboard. I can also see that this format would work for some. Maybe it's a bit before its time.

That would be nice.

The one thing I can say about the iPad is that it exceeds expectations. I use mine more throughout the day than I do all of my laptops and desktops combined.
