SA Post Office Strike

The part where it states "minimal interruptions on our services", was good for a laugh.
Sadly, though, ultimately the joke is on us - the taxpayers.
South Africa IS the joke.

Just got feedback of my order. Apparently it was returned and marked "prohibited." Wtf?

Nope, simple Vitamin D.

;)

In all seriousness, probably somebody decided it was medicine or something equally ridiculous and found that whatever they thought it was, was a prohibited item.

These are the people that tried to tell me a laptop was a TV after all...

Think I'd stick with what Mike says on this. Pharmaceuticals require a license and approval but supplements are exempted from being classified as pharmaceuticals. Customs are legendary for their ****ups. Just makes me mad I've now wasted 3 months.

So who do I contact next? Supplier can't give me any more info.

Make that nearly 3 years, since you joined. ;)

So... should I order again? What are the chances the same could happen?

EDIT: Would DHL give less problems?

There is a schedule somewhere that lists some meds/supplements and what class they are. For example melatonin? (not sure how its spelled now) requires a doc prescription if you want to use it over a long term so they cant be ordered online and imported.

I'm aware of the MMC schedule. That only states what supplements may be sold in what quantities locally. The SARS list of prohibited goods is something different and lists medicines as prohibited without an import permit. Supplements are allowed and have never posed a problem. If a supplement is on the MCC schedule as medicine (some herbs are) they ask for a prescription though instead of prohibiting it outright.

Oh and some vitamins in their pure form are also prohibited. Doesn't include in supplemental form and Vitamin D is also not listed among these.

For vitamin D go to bloody Dischem, don't care how much more expensive it is it's worth it to avoid SAPO and customs. Anything you can get local you get local...

PS: my £35 spent on courier over free postal delivery was worth every damn cent.

cool, so customs mucked up. You can always chat to DHL and see if what they say before you order. Why not buy it locally?

Locals only stock the weak 500-1000IU stuff. Recommended dose is up to 20,000IU so not really worth the cost. The softgels are also the only really effective form which nobody here stocks. Have seen these locally as import items at a cost of ~R800. Can import myself at $20 after tax for a 6 month supply.

Think I will find out what DHL has to say. Only costs me $18 over the regular $12 for postal delivery so quite worth it for 4 day delivery and a better customs experience.

Do these folks ever answer that 0860111502 number?
They "open" at 07h30, right?
"All our agents are currently busy". That's all I get. No matter what time of day I try.

Any other means to get tracking info on an international parcel. I just need the local tracking #

Pay their salaries by cheque and send the cheques by post. See how they like it!
