Samsung Galaxy S2

i know this is somewhat evil of me, but i can't help thinking that i may even have an s2 from vodacom before all you handtec guys :/

I'm starting to agree with you... They don't seem to have any idea how big their next shipment will be. That's probably more samsung's fault, but hey...

if you get the s, as good a phone as it is, you'll kick yourself for a long time that you didn't get the s2! i doubt the s2 is going to be much more expensive than the s anyway, as the s is retailing at vodacom currently for 6.5k or thereabouts.

the other think is to consider the smart 120 package instead of the talk 75s. it's 120 minutes (per second), so more talk-time, 100 sms's, and 250mb data for 450 bucks. a little more than the talk 75, but free phone and more minutes (if you use them) mean you actually pay less in the end ;)

Yeah I"ll probably skip that one hehe, I'll have to think about it. I'm currently on Topup 45, I don't make that many calls. Wish there were more sites like Nashua Mobile that would let you easily check payin costs/charges and such and compare - not that I"ll use Nashua though.

Also I'd rather put down a lump sum than get a high contract, just in case finances go bad - would rather pay in while I have the cash.

paying about 2k for the handset is the equivalent of just under 100 per month over the 22 month upgrade cycle. just put the money aside! another thing that i discovered is that having a better contract with more free minutes means that one can use one's phone in a better way; sort of like having uncapped internet means one can use the internet properly ;) no more of those 10-second rushed calls, no more please call me's etc.

i recently (about a month ago) popped into vodacom and got a list of the contracts then available with the galaxy s (i am sure that the s2 contracts will be similar or only a little more):
R2069 on everyday off-peak 120 per second (R135/m)
R699 (or R34/month) on business per second (R185)
R2189 (or R110/month) on talk 75s (R189)
R829 (or R39/month) on talk 120 (R300)
R1389 (or R74/month) on top up 315s (R315)
R929 (or R54/month) on top up 315 per minute (R315)
R699 (or R30/month) on top up 400s (R400)
free + 30mb data for 3 months on business (R185) or talk 130 per minute (R315)
free + 30mb for 3 months on talk 200, talk 240 (R430), talk 350s (R630)
free + 30mb for 3 months on top up 500s (R500), top up 590 (R590), talk 500 (R800), top up 1000 (R1000)
free on smart 120s (120 minutes per second, 100 sms, 250mb) (R450)

hope that helps :D

They answer me eventually -

Thank you for your email
Stock has started to come in and we are currently working through back orders
We are expecting more stock today and Wednesday, dispatching orders on a first come basis
We expect your order to be shipped today
Please keep an eye on the web-page we will update as soon as there are any changes

Love the third sentence

Alright! CONGRATS!!! :D So stoked for ya.

I'm gonna open me a ticket now, see if they have any guesstimates... I also ordered some camera gear around the same time from elsewhere, and had to do the credit card jump through hoops deal, and it should be shipped today. Now if I make today's batch... I'll be one happy camper!

Do that, but they will only answer tomorrow. Feedback/communication with customers is not their strongest point

Thanks dude :) Yeah like I said though, I'd rather - if possible, pay a lump sum up front while I know I have the cash available. Last thing I need is a surprise financial issue and have to worry about a big monthly payment. Also it usually works out slightly cheaper to pay off the handset once vs monthly. I hope VC can give me price info on the S2 soon, but knowing how they stalled me for ages re: Nokia N900 I'm not holding my breath.

I got a response... was just a waste of their and my time:

"We are currently awaiting stock of this item, more stock is due over this week and we will be promptly processing all orders as soon as possible in a chronological order.

We do appreciate your patience in this matter and you will be emailed once your order has been fulfilled, we expect this to be within the next week.

Please advise if you wish to make any changes to your order prior to shipping.
"

Within the next week... *sigh*

Yip, not good news at all.

You're either a hot babe or a sneaky dude :)

I phoned VC and the cash price for the S1 is ~ R6500 and the S2, according to the MyBB article is just under R7k so hopefully I can get a good deal on that Talk 75.

Although I had to repeat myself a few times, some people can't tell the difference between the Galaxy S tablet and the handset even when I said "phone" quite clearly.

Yup... Definitely should have gone with clove... "SOLD OUT - orders placed before 24/5 shipping this week, orders placed from 24/5 onwards shipping next week. "

I'm thinking that's cloves status?

Ya, sorry, should have been more specific.

If we bought from Clove we would have had the phones weeks ago. Story of my life to always back the sick horse., and now back to the waiting line

Hopefully they ship tomorrow... Any idea if that volcanic cloud whatever thingy will pose a threat to the galaxy s2 airspace?
