The CM9 nightlies are non wipe. So flashing them over a previous version should be fine. It is good practice to wipe cache and dalvic cache. I did not do either. I think it is done automatically by the newer version. I did not lose any preferences. I would suggest you to get intk CWM recovery and flash from the dual boot options menu. 1st important step is to make nand backup of the rom in recovery.
I learnt the hard way that if you flash CM9 to the primary rom that it installs its own kernel. I lost Siyah. The only way to get it back was with Mobile Odin. It was a bit of a schleb, but not the end of the world. GM always makes 2 versions of any of his kernels. One you can flash with CWM and one you can flash with Mobile Odin. But now I keep my experiments purely on secondary rom.
Why CM9 though? Never used it, just curious?
Hey, are you on Vodacom? I need to update the message service center number but can't get it to update. Do you know what yours are? I dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to Phone Info, and update SMSC. But when I update it to "+27829119
" I get an error. Don't know what it's supposed to be.

Thanks guys. Yip, that method on the XDA thread powermzii posted is correct. The number I found that works now for Vodacom is: 05917 22819 9111 0
+ 100000000000
Best phone I've ever owned.
is it just me, or doesn't your phone go into deep sleep when BLN is enabled?
My phone lost 0% battery life from 22h30 - 05h30 this morning. I was quite impressed.
I thought I would post my setup here for comparrison by others using Siyah:
Firmware/Rom: Stock ICS XWLPD
Kernel: Siyah v 3.2.7.1
Kernel settings using ExTweaks
Profile: Battery
CPU
Hotplug: Default
CPU Idle mode: AFTR+LPA
Smooth scaling: 800MHz
SCHED_MC: 0 (I found that if I set this to 1 or 2, I get freezes and resets)
CPU U/V: -50Mv
CPU step count: 18
Governor: Pegasusq
Scaling maximum frequency: 1000000MHz
Scaling minimum frequency: 100000MHz
GPU
GPU Freq steps: 40/133/267 MHz
GPU Voltage levels: 900/950/1000 mV
GPU Threshold 1 up: 85%
GPU Threshold 2 down: 25%
GPU Threshold 2 up: 85%
GPU Threshold 3 down: 40%
GPU staycounts: all set at 1
SCREEN
Genreally I have auto brightness setting enabled
Touchmove: 5 pixel
Min BL: 40
Min Gamma: 0
Max Gamma: 24
Gamma shift: 0
Vibration: 3
BLN
Not activated
MISC
Android logger: Activated/ticked
Scheduler: SIO
Charge current: AC,MISC:650mA, USB:450mA
Then in SetCPU, I use AndreiLux's governor settings. You can try this to see if there is any improvement for you. These settings are all under the tag GOVERNOR (only tag which is set on boot in SetCPU)
Sample rate: 40000
Up threshold: 90
Sampling down factor: 2
Ignore nice load: 0
IO is busy: 0
Down differential: 5
Freq step: 30
CPU up rate: 10
CPU down rate: 20
Max CPU lock: 0
Hotplug lock: 0
DVFS debug: 0
Hotplug freq 1 1: 40000
Hotplug freq 2 0: 20000
Hotplug rq 1 1: 350
Hotplug rq 2 0: 200
Up threshold at min freq: 95
Freq for responsiveness: 100000
Damn how do you guys do it?!
I've changed the following settings in ExTweaks, but don't get the same results:
Scaling Max Freq: 800mhz
Scaling in Freq: 100mhz
Governor: Pegasusq
I/O Scheduler: SIO.
I have confirmed that my phone goes into deep sleep as it should, but I still can't get a full day's battery lifeAny ideas?
ImpressiveI don't use SetCPU though. What's your average battery life?
Just a question on your CPU scaling:
You have set your minimum threshold quite high. Why is that?
