thought it came standard with 2.3.3?
That's a bit over the top, I reckon. According to gsmarena.com, you have to look really, really hard and you need to know where to look to even see it. Not a dealbreaker by any stretch of the imagination.
It seems everything is working the same as before. Did any of you guys rooted the s2? I'm shlt scare to try it again
Nearly manufactured a brick last night. I'm a noob and tried to root the s2. At the restart stage it just keep on hanging and nothing happened. By 2:00 this morning I found a file of about 500 mb to "flush" the phone. It's working again but I think it changes the sofware. Do not really what it was before but now it's -
Android version 2.3.3
Baseband version 19100XXKHD
Kernel version2.6.35.7-19100XWKDD-CL161513root@DELL103#2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKDD
What does this mean. Am I using a newer version now or is it a older version, and if it's a older version how can I correct it?
Looks like you tried using the insecure kernel that was the first rooting technique (XWKDD). Chances are your phone is running XWKE7 as the firmware, so leaving the old kernel should work, but its not 'on par' with the rest of your system.
Personally, I ran a more recent rooting kernel, as it comes with some built in backup utils. I would recommend using this one, as you don't need to bother with superoneclick or anything anymore... Same guy who released the original insecure kernel.
Fairly easy to follow instructions.
If you don't like the yellow triangle on boot, there's instructions on the second post. Just make sure you follow very, very closely and you'll need the XWKE7 stock kernel from here, password for the zip is intratech@XDA (as seen in this thread)
Hope this helps! You should be able to follow the instructions from where your phone is at the moment.
there's nothing quite like rooting-panic when something appears to go wrong... :/
when i rooted my c905 i thought for about an hour or two that i'd bricked it... awful feeling![]()
Came across this on the XDA forums:
http://www.gelaskins.com/store/skins/phones/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II
It protects your phones body, and you can cover it with a skin of your choice (they will even make one from your own picture). Great way to personalise your phone.
Combined with a screen protector, your phone should be well protected.
Think I'll get that for myself when/if I buy another SGS2 (gonna kiss my brand new one goodbye tomorrow when it gets shipped to the buyer).
I don't know if they ship to SA but maybe you can convince them to mail it in an envelope, to avoid any fees.
You can get these at a kiosk at Canal Walk on the top level near Incredible Deception, but they are not cheap. R240 odd a pop. There are some quite pretty ones though. I think I will try and get one from the site mentioned and see what happens (not for SII, just for the old S).
