Okay, guys I need help please.

I'm so annoyed with my phone currently and the rom that's on it, I'm prepared to PAY somebody to help me flash to a newer/more stable version as I simply don't have the time/tools/knowledge to do it on my own.

Please drop me a PM if you are interested, I'll give you R150 for your efforts.

I'm locatedi n the Midrand/JHB area.
 
SLicK, I'm in the Midrand area myself, but I won't take your money (I also have precious little time on my hands). As far as time/knowledge/tools are concerned, it's all openly available, and there have been several tutorials posted to this very thread for rooting and flashing. Software is easy (ODIN), and rooting too (CF-Root). We're here to help - unless someone else takes you up on your offer.

Bear in mind that this invalidates your warrant y (in theory), so if anything happens, will you hold said helper to account?

Yeah Dude, I know there's tons of tutorials etc, but I just don't have the time at home/work to sit and read and educate myself.

I don't understand all if it yet and at this point in time my phone is making me wanna lose it.

Dude!

Install the official South Africa 4.0.3 ROM, then download and install Nova Launcher from the Play Store. All you need.

Your phone is 150% stable, everything works perfectly, battery life is great and the phone is smooth and responsive.

And your DSTV Drifta and banking app will work as well. No need for temp root, etc.

I have 4.0.3 on and it's buggy as hell! It's driving me bat**** insane!

^^ What he said. Unless you already did that. :erm:

If you don't like Nova, take a look at Apex Launcher. Both are top-of-the-line ICS launchers.
 
Factory data Reset + install Apex launcher. Or, sleep an hour less tonight =P

1. Download Odin onto your PC.
2. Flash a CF Root kernel onto your phone via this guide.
3. Install Titanium Backup from Android Market.
4. Do a full backup of all your apps and data.
5. Install Call Log Backup & Restore and SMS Backup & Restore if needed, perform same task.
6. Download one of many ROM's available. Flash as per instructions on ROM thread.

EDT: Better repository.

Then something is very wrong with your phone, or the software is not the Samsung official 4.0.3 version.

I would take Raithlin's advice, do a factory reset (logout of your Samsung account first) & also tick "clear USB storage".

You can backup your sms with SMSBackup+ or another sms backup app.

Check on www.samfirmware.com for the official South Africa 4.0.3 firmware.
 
RR 307 out unofficially :-S. Seems a little pointless though, the guy writing it says it's unstable and OAKP build 3 is coming out or something, bla bla di bla.

I'm enjoying ICS RR 2.7 too much to worry enough.

The official ics update didn't go smoothly on my phone, and I did a factory wipe/reset beforehand. Not too sure why, but was buggy and my wifi would toggle on and off etc. Drove me crazy

Now I'm rooted running on Dorimanx 5.77c kernel, cm9.1 stable as primary rom and rr 3.0.6 as secondary (just testing the stability etc). Fell in love with the phone all over again!

Did you do the update via Kies?? :eek:
 
Kies? People still use that? :P

I thought that going back to ICS would solve my music player issues, but when skipping songs in google play the equalizer still gets automaticaly disabled everytime. Volume doesnt ramp like the JB ROMS, but this is just as anoying...

Could it be Kernel related? I'm on Dorimanx 5.7.8

I'm running the official Samsung 4.0.3 firmware with Nova Launcher & my S2 is an absolute joy to use.

Very good battery life, the phone is fast and very responsive & never had any slowdowns or crashes.

So me is a very happy camper!
 
Dear all

I flashed Cyanogenmod 10 nightly. Very happy so far. RR was getting too unstable for my liking.

I can't find the setting for my problem:

My wifi, most of the time, turns off when my phone sleeps. Perhaps a nightly specific problem?
 
I'm also looking at some alternative ROMs again. Currently in my install list are Jelly King and ReVolt - both CM10 / JB ROMs. Feedback to follow.

I have chosen my Gmail account's contacts to be displayed but when someone phones me it shows the contact's details as per my sim card and it is in the incorrect format.

Any ideas how to get rid of the sim contacts?
