I am on the first cm10.1 (4.2.1) and dorimanx 7.32, and have to say, I am impressed, very happy, its stable and smooth. Actually quite sorted for such an early build.

Ive put Neatrom with JB on my wife's S2. Its flipping amazing! Feels like an S3!

I wonder if the S2 will ever see anything beyond JB ... (fully functional)
To me it feels like by the time I get tired of JB I'll upgrade to an S3 or better anyway, so not too much worried about that.

The S2 will go down in my books as the greatest phone that I have ever owned and dare I say it, the greatest phone ever made thus far. It's a HUGE bang for buck piece of hardware.

Agreed!! And the most robust.

I am convinced the original gorilla glass on the S2 is much tougher than the S3's gorilla glass 2.

Yeah I've dropped my phone pretty badly several times, and it's still rock solid. My friend dropped his s3 the other day, screen busted and that's not the first case I've heard

I've dropped my s2 the screen was ok just the LCD broke so kinda pointless if you ask me hey having a crazy strong screen with a weak LCD. Had to replace the whole thing

Was running the Samsung Jelly Bean test ROM til yesterday, when I decided to move back to ICS because battery drains fast in JB.

Biggest mistake ever. Never ever load ICS on your S2 if you are used to JB. Never.

Could not wait to leave work and put JB back! Now that I have loaded JB on my S2 again, I once again have this incredibly beautiful phone!!

And it turns out the media scanner is the big culprit in this Samsung test ROM.

The fix is available on XDA, Google is your friend.

So after reading all the moaning iSheep threads, complaining about the lack of stock of the iPhone 5 and how shocking and unforgivable the entire situation is, I just want to say that I love my Android!!!

I am not defending Sammy ROMs, but every ROM has it's issues. Name them - RB, CM, RR, NR, WL, PA, etc. The way development works these days is to produce something because the masses wants it and then wait for the masses to come back with bug reports so it can be fixed. RR and CM develops as time goes by - they bring out nightlys and often these are ridden with bugs. Then someone comes up with a bugfix and you have to flash it in order to get a stable feature. This fix gets implemented and released i na later version, but in the meanwhile you are stuck with the problem.

When you say "things like this", you must remember that there is no official JB rom out yet. It is a leaked rom. Leaked roms are prone to issues and the risk to the end user is higher than when official roms/fw is released by Samsung (similar to nightlys). The difference is that CM, RR and the rest don't care for bugs, because it is all still under development and the bugs will be sorted out in due course. I love these roms, but then just when they perected the GB version, ICS is introduced. Then Development on ICS starts and just when that is perfected, JB comes out and so the cycle continues.

But when Samsung officially releases a rom/fw, there are little to no bugs. I remember the ICS leaked rom/fw LPB (correct me if I am wrong). The rom was so buggy, I uninstalled it faster than the installation. I could not live with the crap that was leaked. The subsequent roms/fw was almost bug free compared to the leaked version.

In the same vein, you should be put off by most custom roms out there. I am not attacking you, I just thing that your preference is with another developer because they try to implement features that Sammy roms never included before. I loved RR and CM, but there were small niggly things that kept me from using it as daily drivers for long periods. I always reverted to stock because of small things that were not implemented in the custom roms at the time. Now with JB, Samsung has taken so much from CM, RR and the like while still keeping the features that kept me using official fw. I doubt I will flash another custom rom as a daily driver if the official releases are going to be the same as the leaked version (but with bug fixes).

No worries dude, don't see it as an attack :)

What I mean was that a number of features that Samsung (and to be fair, all Android vendors) provide, like that text to speech crap, are just silly things that I do not feel are necessary. But in the same vein- without trash like TouchWiz, or excellent ideas like multi window, smart stay the custom ROM world would be very boring. And at least we don't have the masses of bloatware that US users have with their service providers.

I actually don't mind the buggy ROM's- because these are the ones that allow us to really see into the future of what Android is capable of. I always worked around the bugs- because I appreciate the hard work that the developer did into trying to make it perfect. But it is very difficult to have a perfect ROM with a plethora of awesome features. This is why iOS is the way it is.

This is why I love AOKP- I love the purity of original Android with the best features and functionality of the other UX's out there. I am seriously appreciative that I have a device that allows me to try out so many different things.

But I hear you on the massive inroads that the official ROM's are making- and this is why I am still deciding on whether to flash it or not. Laying on my SD card, decisions, decisions...
