Congratulations!!

I think you'll still find your S2 running Gingerbread & it might freak you out......download the Samsung Jelly Bean Test ROM and install it pronto! :)

I was actually thinking yesterday that this phone actually came out with GB and now runs JB which is a massive difference... Kinda like upgrading a pc from windows 98 to windows 7 and it works better than ever.

Astounding, isn't it?

When I got my new S2 last month, powered it on and saw good ol' Gingerbread 2.3.4 running on it. Classic moment! :)

It's just an epic phone.

Found a bit of a bug in mine (standard leaked test rom). If I enable the yatse notification plugin under accessibility (to get notifications from any app on xbmc) then it starts reading out a bunch of things you do (most annoyingly "Page 4 of 7" every time you go home). See there's quite a few other roms out there based on this though.

its updating to ICS at the moment. Let me find my feet before i start fiddling with test roms

Test rom = stock but not officially released. It won't be any different from what you are doing now, except you'd be on a far superior fw. It is an official Samsung rom. The released roms/fw from Samsung later this month will be the same barring some tweaks

To me the S2 is definitely one of the top phones. Sure the S3 has a nicer screen and 2 more cores but neither are anything I miss. I personally don't like it's looks either. I'm pretty sure the screen is cracked easier because the glass comes right to the edge where the S2 has a rim around the edge protecting the edge of the glass, which is a particular weak spot. Size wise it's pretty much at the limit of what I can use easily with 1 hand.

Extended battery is 2000mAh (vs 2100 for the stock S3 battery and 1650 for the stock S2 battery).

The biggest difference to me with the S3 would be the camera. That is a massive step up from the S2. (Although a smaller step up from an S2 with the Samsung JB rom/derivatives)

Who stocks these locally?

Thanks again. Android bug has bitten, hard. Considering rooting and flashing a custom rom or the sammobile JB test rom this weekend.

First flash the JB Test ROM, and see if you like it.

It's works exceptionally well & the official Samsung JB ROM for the S2 should be just round the corner.

Here's my first daft question (probably one of many)
Why don't the icons for my messaging apps display how many unread messages I have?

Which ROM? My Messaging app does indeed display unread messages. Using NeatROM Lite (JB test ROM)

I think you need to enable it for the SMS and Email apps, under Notifications.

I don't use the Email app, use Gmail, so I get a Gmail notification at the top left corner in the toolbar.

The S2 will be two years old next month. :)

That's what I figure, too. Why do I need notifications a la iOS, when it shows at the top?
