Samsung Galaxy S2

To me the S2 is definitely one of the top phones. Sure the S3 has a nicer screen and 2 more cores but neither are anything I miss. I personally don't like it's looks either. I'm pretty sure the screen is cracked easier because the glass comes right to the edge where the S2 has a rim around the edge protecting the edge of the glass, which is a particular weak spot. Size wise it's pretty much at the limit of what I can use easily with 1 hand.

Extended battery is 2000mAh (vs 2100 for the stock S3 battery and 1650 for the stock S2 battery).

The biggest difference to me with the S3 would be the camera. That is a massive step up from the S2. (Although a smaller step up from an S2 with the Samsung JB rom/derivatives)

Just got the extended battery, and the new version of Nova is smooooooooooooth.

S2: BEST. PHONE. EVER

All the new phones are just too big, the S2 is the perfect size and it has a decent cpu and enough ram.

Like that Nova is able to change icon sizes now :)

I want to swim in a lake of S2s :D

Then it will have to be in a lake of pink S2s. :D

Hey guys, so about a week ago my s2 spontaneously stopped working. Woke up in the morning, realised I had forgotten to charge it, so plugged it in to charge (at which time it was working), had breakfast etc and came back and it was off. Tried to boot it up, didnt want to boot up. Tried switching batteries, nothing. Tried booting into download mode and into recovery, wouldnt go. Tried connecting to the PC, nothing.

Im a bit shocked, I never dropped it or anything. I have absolutely no idea what happened.

I'm with Cell C and the phone came with C cover, which is supposed to cover accidental damages according to the T&C's. So I want to take it in, but I'm worried about the custom Rom and kernel. I've heard that Cell C are very good at not covering things with C-cover.

Any advice?

Well, if one can establish if he has the old bootloader, there might be a window of opportunity to get into download mode to install official fw so he doesn't get shafted for loading custom roms/kernels. It could also be the kernel that somehow got corrupted and if that's the case, it might be fixed without having to rely on CellC's crap service.

EDIT: This is not my first rodeo :D I helped a mate of mines S2 back to life. It had similar problems. He was fortunate enough to have had GB on his phone at the time. We could use my jig to get into download mode. If he had ICS with the new bootloader, we would not have been able to use the jig

EDIT: I decided to stick with my S2 and pass the steal deal i had for the S3. S2 is perfect size, fast, awesome.
Cannot believe I can love an electronic device THIS much. I swear if it came to it I could survive with ONLY my S2 and no other electronic computing devices.

Hold on to your S2, the official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM is gonna be epic. :)

Congratulations!!

I think you'll still find your S2 running Gingerbread & it might freak you out......download the Samsung Jelly Bean Test ROM and install it pronto! :)

its updating to ICS at the moment. Let me find my feet before i start fiddling with test roms
