Updated to carbonrom and dorimanx 8.43 kernel. Got the calender and Apollo .apk's from one of the the CM nightly zip files and everything seems cool so far. One of the things I miss about CM though is being able to remove text from homescreen icons. Any way to do this natively or does it require third-party apps?

None, and chances are it won't happen for the S2 either. Best bet would be custom roms based on KitKat
Oops, seemed I missed a crucial part there.
I know there are some unofficial builds of Cyonogen Mod Kit Kat. I think Dr Zoidberg mentioned something like this.

Where can I get a NEW battery for my S2?
Not a cheapie please, I want a proper one.
My S2 is 2 years old now, and still working like new, except better, besides the battery life which seems a bit worse. Time to give it some TLC!

I got one from the Samsung service center here in Dubai. There should be a Samsung service center in SA too. Google them.
Meh - wasn't really enjoying carbonrom: The lockscreen was a bit finicky, some UI stuff wasn't so great, battery life was no better than CM nightlies. Installed the latest Slim Bean 4.3 final. Comes with nova launcher which is ok I guess I've never really used it before but it gives options to remove icon labels which is one thing I really missed from CM. There's also an AOKP 4.3 milestone due out later today for the S2 so also keen to give that a go.
Will give it a few days with the default kernel and see how it goes.

So it seems like most of the Galaxy S2 owners have opted for a Nexus 5, or a Galaxy Note 3, or in my case, a Galaxy Note 2.
It's been a fantastic run with my S2, and I still have it as my backup, but now I've got at least two interested buyers.
Just don't want to let it go.

Hell yeah! Mine is a dedicated photography tool (remote trigger and other photography apps). And besides, Sale will be bringing a Vanilla version to the S2. I just have to flash it

Definitely my surprise Android smartphone for 2013! It came from nowhere and slapped all the other Android flagship phones silly.
I am now finally used to the Note 2's 5.5'' size & not sure if I will ever be happy with a smaller display again.

Still have my GS2, still in great condition, can't let it go, I doubt anyone else will take as good care of it as I have.

I'm still hoping that maybe, just maybe, Samsung will send out a Kitkat update for the S2.
Now that will be a fitting tribute to the phone that started it all for Samsung.

Yep, still keeping mine. I'll probably go for a Nexus 5 one day, but as long as my SII runs, there is no need
Got Kit Kat running on a new, it's much better then Jelly Bean imo.
