The apps u purchased stay as purchased if u use the same gmail address the whole time...
I think u have to root or install custom rom to get a reboot option...o

So will there be an option to download them again from the market or what?

You can use either MyBackup or Titanium backup to backup your applications. There is an option to backup the market link as well, so it will automatically link the app to the market once you restore it.

I just rooted my KG2 firmware but I cant seem to "install ZIP from SD card" in CWM, there just is no option. Anyone know a solution, cant seem to find one

yeh, using CWM, you simply have to power off your phone, hold vol up + home + power button, boot into CWM, and its the 5th option...

Sorry for double posting, FF is giving me grieft to edit my ^ post... ¯\(o_º)/¯ I DoNt KnOw WhY

Now the question for me is, should I flash this baby to KG3, hehe
Has anyone done this yet?

Gawd, I love this phone, so many "hacks" you can do to it :) :) :)

I have downloaded this -->

9 Mirrors for XXKG3 (3 parts Version) : http://www.multiupload.com/9X0K0MFOCO including USB Driver, CWM and Stock KG3 Kernel for root...feel free Password: samfirmware.com

9 Mirrors for XXKG3 Root Package only: http://www.multiupload.com/1TMFC0HLJW Password: nightly@ghostworker

But I'm sceptical to flash it, poster on xda only has 16 posts to his nick :O hehe

do you guys think these files valid to flash???

I'm personally going to flash Villain today and if it works for me, i'm going to stick with it until I find something better. All this reading up about ROMs, flashing, restoring apps, testing it and reflashing is too time consuming. Damn, I wish I was still a student. LOL. Last year I had enough time to do all this.

ROLFOL, I hear ya man, 6, yes SIX years ago I had time to do this ****... and quite frankly, I did, knew symbian in & out... cracking / hacking you name it, I did it heh

But, even now, I'm a techo geek at heart, will try to do this kinda stuff now and then, and since this is my first time being on android... its even crazy, its like being a kid again, like to rip toys apart and like to put back together again as a super toy

LOL I know how you feel. As much as I want to flash different ROMs and play around, I just don't get the time to do these things. Reading my previous post, it's like I have become and old man in 7 months. LOL. I can't read about it at work because well I'm busy with work. I have to admit though, this is one sick OS!

I fixed my problem, all sorted now.

Im with swift, flash Villain 2.1 and see from there, im not going to flash the KG3 Update, just not worth it. Villain is the ROM I always see that's first to get updated to new firmware etc so feel its the best to go for.

So it seems that a couple of ROM "chefs" thought it was a good idea to sneak in a script to cheat their quadrant benchmark results... Both Lite'ning ROM, and AngeloROM are giving deceiving quadrant scores.

Quadrant isn't an amazing benchmark for the SGS2, as it's not properly multi-threaded, but I think it's worth explanining what was going on here. Both of the named ROMs are using an init.d script to detect Quadrant, and mount its files to a ramdisk, meaning that IO performance is not being measured accurately. This can give the undiscerning user a very high Quadrant score (in excess of 6000 in some cases).

What does this mean? Absolutely nothing. But it's essentially a sign that the maker of that ROM does not see fit to be honest with you. Can you trust someone who would rather boost their "e-peen" by deceiving you, rather than forego the e-peen extension, and instead be honest about the performance of your ROM.

Just think... If a ROM dev is happy to hide code to cheat Quadrant scores, and deceive you in that way, in what other ways might they also be deceiving you?

And for the avoidance of doubt, VillainROM does not, and will not, make use of dodgy "cheating" methods to fool you into thinking you have higher benchmark scores than you do... It's not cool, it's not something you expect to see from a "developer", who should be someone trustworthy, given the level of trust you are giving them by installing a ROM they make.

copied from the villainrom xda thread... Could be just dev propaganda but perhaps litening rom is not the way to go.

How long does it take yr phones to charge from, say, 10% to full? Mine takes a good few hours and I'm lucky if my phone lasts 24 hours on a full charge :( haven't applied any tweaks yet tho and the thing is new so it is getting some donnered a bit!

Installed VillainROM 2.1 so far so good, no complaints. Once rooted your phone just gets that much better, loving it.

Swift did you get SetCPU, wondering how it is etc?

I flashed VillainRom as well. I'm using the ninphetamine kernel instead of CF Root or CWM so that I can use setCpu. I setup a few profiles, like when the screen is off it should run at 200 Mhz and when the battery is below 30% it should underclock as well. I'm going to calibrate my battery later. I haven't done much reading about setCpu yet, so I won't try changing the voltages as yet. setCpu is cool, you can check which frequencies the phone spends a certain percentage of time running at. I'm going to read the site: http://www.setcpu.com/

Use this link http://www.multiupload.com/9SY9CKXAWB to download KG2 2.3.4. KG2 is the new firmware version or w/e of 2.3.4 it doesnt have anything to do with country. What is unique to country's is the CSC.

Flash it via ODIN and put this file in the PDA section of ODIN. Turn phone off and put in your jig to enter download mode, remove Jig, connect phone to PC and flash - done. The link I provided doesn't wipe your phone but do a back up just in case. Use MyBackup for backup of system settings/files and apps.

If you flash this firmware as I have you will not be able to install new firmware via Kies but Kies sucks and ODIN rocks so just manually update your firmware with this method from now on, no need to wait for firmware to be released. We are waiting for South Africa's stock firmware to be released by Intratech. This containts our OJCKE1 CSC but dont worry the Multi CSC works just fine.

Hope I helped

Whats the difference between doing this or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081368 ?

I have followed the above link, rooted with CF-Root KE7 and installed VillainROM, Phone now shows Android ver as 2.3.4 but the rest still looks the same... Do you think I should still update to KG2? This whole process was nerve wrecking!!

AFAIK you can only flash Tar files using odin for the firmware. I'm speaking under correction though. That's because VillainRom doesn't flash the kernel, so the KE7 kernel you flashed it will still be installed. It's up to you. I'm not sure if the KE7 kernel will cause any instability issues.

Only reason to flash the stock kernel in this case KG2 is to get rid of the triangle after root. If you are coming from KE7 stock I will recommend you flash the KG2 Modem as that is a huge update coming from KE7.

Swift, I flashed CF-Root. Will SetCPU not work with that kernel? Thanks for the link, looks interesting
