Samsung Galaxy S2

I tried out a couple of those keyboards. They're all similar to Swype anyway, I can't see much benefit or difference...

Ummm I'm busy trying to iron all out my issues. Slowly getting there, but one annoying problem is that I've loaded a custom ringtone (mp3) and when the phone rings, the volume is actually low for a couple of seconds before it gets to full volume. How does one change this to full volume from the beginning of a ring?? Googling for a bit shows it's just a Samsung thing. Lame!

I've improved my data and battery usage quite a bit by disabling push email on my Microsoft Exchange email account. Happy days...

I tried the standard Samsung keyboard, Swype and SlideIt. And i found myself going back to the standard samsung :/
I don't use the "swype" function (i just type as normal keyboard) but Swype's key layout suits me except for the tiny spacebar and large backspace.

I'll give SwiftKey a go though.

Perhaps i should just make my own keyboard.

Swype.. love it except for that bloody space bar.. need that fixed.

Anyways...

In other news.. I have had my Galaxy S2 for about 2 weeks now and I DROPPED IT IN WATER.

Fail. I nevet drop phones.. ever! Now I go and do it and in water of all places.

It was only for about 2 seconds, the back cover popped off as it hit the sink surface and the top third of the phone was under.

I immediately took the phone out and removed battery. (About 6 seconds time elapsed). Took it to a repair shop that lunch time and got them to remove all the water etc from the device.

Been running down solidly for one week without any problem. No marks on the actual device from dropping it into the sync and nothing not yet that isnt working.

3G|HSDPA working.
2G|EDGE working.
GPS working correctly.
Bluetooth working.
Battery didn't get wet.
memory card reader and memory card working.
WiFi Working.
Screen fine.

So I can count myself lucky.

Didn't think that my phone could pocket-dial; it's a touchscreen, and the screen was off.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

Thanks swift. Fiance got her sgs2 yesterday, I installed the usual apps, rooted with cf root and installed some root apps. Don't think ill be changing roms though, she's quite averse to tech change. I got in trouble for changing the theme on xbmc :p

Would you perhaps be willing to post the APK of Drive&Walk somewhere? I'm one of those (there are others somewhere in this monster thread) who flashed a new ROM without backing that up, and the stock SA firmware seems impossible to find.

Good day gents.

Does anyone know if there is an stock vodacom-branded kernel around? Not too keen on rooting until i have one :)

2ndly, is the only option for the jig importing it? If so, does anyone else want one if i import a whole bunch? :D

1. Dunno about a stock Vodacom ROM. Don't really care either. All you need is a stock Sammy ROM which are available and unroot (for warranty purposes).

2. Not found a jig locally so got 5 on the way. 2 for me, 3 for anyone else that wants. 1 of them booked already so 2 available. They shipped beginning of the week so will hopefully have them soon.

Erm... My startup is Vodacom branded... Afaik i need the phone to do the same... What i would like is to be able to restore the backup Rom, stock kernel and unroot to return the phone if/when it becomes necessary.

I guess if someone has a story of them ignoring the fact that my phone is not hacked then i will have to take their word. But i would feel safer if i could return it back to standard.

Can i assume that there is none?

Regarding jigs: are you near the cape town region? :)

Make a nandroid backup of your current rom.

You actually only need the boot logo (image file) and boot animation (the Vodacom one) to make it look like the phone you got from Vodacom. Oh, and TouchWiz.

Does that include the kernel?

No, as you will have to flash the clockworkmod kernel to use Nandroid backup. The stock kernel is available for download from the xda forum so you can just flash that after restoring the backup. You will need a jig as well.

Oh alright. Has anyone taken their rooted phone back successfully? What did you do beforehand?

There are new phones coming out which are more powerful. The galaxy was for July contracts... It is time to look at what is next.
