Samsung Galaxy S2

Hi all,
Any idea/ feedback on when MTN will have an OTA update for ICS?

I know I could root but I'd like to try the stock version first.

How is the call quality on this firmware?
I have been using XXLPR and now XXLPS modems and it is giving issues of random silence on the caller side and on my side.
Can anyone recommend a solid modem for Vodacom?

Nothing special.

Which kernel do you guys prefer using ICS? At the moment I'm using Wanamlite rom and Siyah kernel but wondering if you guys have come across anything better?

Who has a 32gb sd card in their phones? How responsive/quick/slow is it?

I'm using a Kingston class 4 32gb micro sd card. It's quite responsive and having no problems with it at all. It all basically depends on what class sd card you have. The higher the number the better and more expensive it is.

*Edit: I forgot to mention that the only time the sd card is slow is when I restore and make Rom backups.

I decided to give Westcrips AOKP Rom 4.0.4 (which you can get here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854) a try.

The Rom is quite fluid and has a whole bunch of features and extra settings that you don't get in Samsung ICS roms. I will need some time to thoroughly test it to see if there is anything that doesn't work as it should, but so far I'm very happy with it.

It takes some getting used to because some things look very different to what you will be used to. The toggles for things like GPS, Wifi exc. can be customized to look either like switches or buttons (I prefer buttons). A nice feature that I like is the ability to hide/unhide the toggles.

This Rom apart from CM is probably the closest one can get to a "pure", ICS experience.

I will try to give my thoughts on this Rom regarding things that work or don't work in a couple of days when it's had enough time to settle.

Have also been using an AOKP rom - the one by Roman and it also works really well and fluidly. Had some issues with sending smses but they seem to have resolved themselves. Camera works well but GPS can be a bit slow to lock on in my experience. Other than that its an awesome light fast ROM

The sweet spot is around Class 6. Anything higher is a waste imho as HD recordings can be easily stored on a Class 6 card.

I need to send my phone in for repairs as the home button is no longer working, I have Litening ICS ROM installed.

I've downloaded the stock 2.3.4 firmware from samfirmware.com (I9100XWKI4 2.3.4 2011 September I9100OJCKI1 South Africa Download), extracted it and there were two files.

Used Odin to flash but it just goes into Android recovery at boot up and says there was an error mounting a whole lot of stuff.

I have tried clearing data and factory reset via CWM but still no luck, if I install Litening ICS again via Odin it boots up fine, any idea what I'm doing wrong?

did you do a backup of the original rom with CWM? If so, just restore? Seems like an obvious answer I know, but maybe one you forgot about.

Does that firmware come with the stock kernel included, or is it a separate download? Sounds like you have a kernel issue.

Didn't purchase the phone new so couldn't make a backup of the original firmware.

No, did not flash a different kernel when I tried downgrading, have downloaded a stock kernel now, how do I flash it (which option does the file go into in Odin. phone, pda, csc)?

Edit
nvm, just put it in PDA.

Will report back on how it goes.

I'm using a Sandisk 32GB and it's not too shabby.

Think it's only a class 4, but more than good enough for HD movies and tons of music.
