Because the one from SamMobile is official? Also, yeah it takes some time to settle in. Do a full factory wipe, My battery lasts me a day more or less. But then again, i don't use it intensively anymore. Have multiple phones
 
Waiting for stable paranoid or rootbox 4.3 before updating. People who only use official sammy doesn't know how fast fast really is. I mean no lag as in no lag. Press drawer button and it opens instantly. Play nfsmw or asphalt and smooth gameplay. Official sammy firmware: never again.
 
I'm on CM10.1.3 Stable, with phone set to update to Stable versions only. I just got a notification that an update is available: CM10.2 M1.

I understand the M denotes it's a [-]monthly[/-] 'Milestone' build, so should be better (?) than a nightly.

From the CM Blog, it's suggested that I could:

"Go ahead and load the M1 release, if it works keep it and set the Auto Update function to Stable only. Then over the next few months you will get M2, M3, RC1 and final when they show up."

Does that make sense?

I take it this move to a new Android version also requires me to get the latest GApps- file 20130813 from here: http://goo.im/gapps

This'll be my first update- can I do all this from my phone or do I need to use a PC as I did for the initial rooting etc?

Further questions:
Do I only need a new GApps for a new Android version?
When moving from M1->M2->RC1->Final etc, do I have to backup & wipe phone each time? I take it going to a new Android version requires a wipe- just checking if the same is required when updating within the same version...

Budza, why not just go with the latest nightly? I promise you that it is very very very very stable. You will not have any problems.

In answer to your question you won't need to go through your PC. Just download the ROM zip to your phone (or use CMDelta) and then install it from recovery. If you are upgrading versions you will need to do a factory reset/full wipe before installing the ROM and then GApps. Make sure the GApps version is correct for your version of CM.

Ag, I guess I'm lazy or can't justify the time to update all the time...

However, if I can keep all my apps and data while updating nightlies, it's a different story. I thought a full wipe+reset was required each time.

Perhaps I'll go for the M1 (already downloaded) and I'll set the phone to look for nightly updates from there and see how we go :)

Is there a prompt to alert me to the fact that a particular update includes a version upgrade or is that something I must just keep an eye on?

Lastly, RE verion upgrades, do I need to factory reset/wipe for every 4.3.X update or only for the 4.X updates?
 
So I download whatever latest version of the OS that there is, the phone reboots and gives me an error message stating that some CWM based thing is messed up, I really can't remember but how do I get past this?

For upgrades where you need to wipe it is where there is a change in the second number of Android i.e. 4.0x 4.1x 4.2x 4.3x
There is no prompt but it will be big news when 4.4 is released :)
If you are doing an update within a version i.e. from one 4.3x nightly to another then there is no need to do a wipe. Just install the rom from recovery and nothing else. You don't lose anything.

Also you can install the latest nightly and then upgrade only once per week or whenever it suits you. I upgrade about twice a week or so.

Just to be clear, going from 4.3.0 to 4.3.1 will not require reset&wipe but from 4.3.1 to 4.4 will?

I was hoping to do this tonight. Are there alternate locations for GApps?

Android File Host doesn't work either. Perhaps it's my work connection or something :(
 
I thought as long as you going from one official rom to the next there is no need to wipe or reset. When the update comes OTA, there is no need to wipe you device.
 
So what the hell does this mean??? How do I get past it?

No one would use Cyanogenmod if it required a factory reset every day. Nor do many people update their nightly every day. I usually update two or three times a month.
 
Ai, flashed the Irish version of 4.3 yesterday. Cleaned up all the bloatware and Samsung junk but battery life is horrible and there is definitely lag getting to the lock screen...
Restored back to 4.1.2 for the time being.

The OTA official one you don't need to wipe the phone and reinstall everything again.

Ok, I didn't even think about a rooted device. For me there is no reason to root it. Perhaps someone else here has more information on this.
