Samsung Galaxy S3

Did you not accidentally wipe everything? Odin shouldn't have wiped it as far as I know. I just plugged my phone in straight using recovery mode. Used pda attached my tar file and clicked start. 5 minutes later and it was done no loss of any data

I used the zip file with the included files in the Sammobile link.

Modem, Crc, AP and some other file. Loaded them up in Odin and installed.

Once completed, my phone was like a factory reset device.

Sounds like you might have done a factory install or something similar. Instead of a software install which doesn't touch data. I just used the one md5 file in the pda section

Was under the impression you needed to run them all.

Noted for next time.

It wiped my phone >.< Just installed with Odin as per the instructions.

Quite bummed to be honest, lost some game saves.

Sorry to hear that really sorry. I installed mine with odin 3.09 and no wipe happened. My apps even updated themselves via play store.

No worries. Funny thing is I could have installed a custom rom seeing as I did an inadvertent clean wipe.

Still considering selling the phone at some point hence the stock firmware for now.

Enjoying 4.3 so far. No serious harm done, perhaps this will help others not make the same mistake.

Most of the guides on Odin are very clear on which files to flash. Next time look at the first links on Google. If you didn't follow a guide with Odin I think you're lucky you didn't cause more damage then just losing game saves

From the link:

sign in Odin
- Add AP_I9300XXUGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 to AP
- Add BL_I9300XXUGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 to BL
- Add MODEM_I9300XXUGMK6_REV02_REV04_CL1413323.tar.md5 to CP
- Add CSC_OXA_I9300OXAGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 to CSC

That's what I did.

Slight hint that they aren't all required would have been nice.

I'm probably very slow as I don't get to this section often :/ but I see Samsung have officially released Android 4.3 now.

Do I need to wait for Vodacom to approve this before installing it?

+1

I just wondering what determines when the OTA update is pushed to your phone?

If you are concerned with your Vodacom warranty then you should wait. Basically the service provider will test the stability of the os on their network. Once they say it's stable enough you can do the update ota. Else if it's in the country you can do it via kies. I remember Vodacom release 4.1.2 but MTN hadn't and I did it via kies. If like majority of us, you don't want to wait. You can use Odin to flash the 4.3. So right now I have a Vodafone UK branded s3 with their recommended apps which you can remove. But it's still original Samsung firmware just not south African or Vodacom

Ok guys. Need some detailed instructions - please. I would like to sell my phone. So was thinking of installing 4.3 (the UK version).

I had gotten detailed instructions on here as to how to install a custom rom (CyanogenMod 10.2). I'm running that currently.

So how do I go about getting from the custom rom back to stock 4.3?

Thanks a mil!

When you used Odin to flash the insecure kernel. You are going to do the same thing now. I am not at my house to look at Odin now, but I think you just select the second one CSC I think. There should be tutorials online

Odin doesn't work from that link - hosting site being shut down

Hmm, just search for it then. I am sure you will get it somewhere. I still have .06 so will also have to download it when I get home if it doesn't work. The reviews says it is quite fast. Will have to see how it compares to cm10.2

I am :P

Does it make a difference using Kies or Odin?
Just different ways of doing the same thing?

Thanks a lot. Waiting for download to complete and will then install and see. I'll give feedback on what I find. Thanks

For Kies you have to wait for Vodacom and that is normally verylong or in the last case of the s2 not at all.

Through Odin you will void your guarantee as you will have to put on the UK version which they might pick up. It doesn't up your flash count though, so you might get away with it
