Samsung Galaxy S3

Afaik the R1500 includes the cost to install the new screen too.
 
I've had my S3 for less than a week and am loving it. Have already rooted and have upgraded it to Omega ROM v9.
 
I don't quite understand the point and benefits of rooting and changing ROMS. Seems there is, in some cases, a slightly better battery performance and removal of a few apps. Seems a waste to me on that basis...

Rooting and changing Roms has a lot of benefits of which I'm not going into detail now. Let's compare owning a unrooted Android phone to owning a car that has a top speed of 300kmh but you are only allowed to go 120kmh. It kinda makes owning the car pointless since you cannot utilise its full potential. (ok so this is probably not a good example, but I'm sure you get the point I'm trying to make)

What I'm trying to say is, once you have rooted your phone and experienced the freedom it gives you, you will never again be satisfied with a unrooted phone.

1. Customizing my phone to my liking and preferences. (especially de- branding the OS)

2. Being able to use apps that require root access. (avast phone tracking service, very useful in the event my phone gets stolen)

3. Getting Rom updates months in advance before the local release.

4. Being able to remove any bloatware.

5. Knowing that I'm making full use of my Android device.

6. Being able to block/remove annoying in-app advertisements.

These are my personal reasons for rooting my Android, some may not seem important but everyone has their own preferences. ;)

Mine was debranded from the time I bought it and I haven't hit any customisation issues from my limited experience with the phone so far...

Tracking software from Samnsung and another app (can't remember its name now) are working fine on the phone as is. Maybe this phone wasn't abused by a network at all. I did pay cash for it...

This one still seems a little iffy to me as I'm still not entirely sure what the benefits of these rom updates are at all. My phone had a new rom update pushed through to it a few days ago and I can't notice any difference whatoever...

I'm unaware of not being able to make full use of the phone. Ignorance is bliss in my case...

See those don't annoy me at all. But I see there are ad-blockers out there regardless. Unsure if they'd work on my phone.

So all in all, I guess rooting and putting on a custom rom just isn't for me. Good to know at least. As a novice I'm now pretty sure that the risk of bricking my phone simply isn't worth it - for me at least...
 
So updates on android are different to say bug fixes and patches? I say this because it looks like updates take a long time to filter down.
 
Yeah - afaik as long as you are not messing around with the bootloader you don't really have any risk of bricking your device.

You are quite right about the updates taking long to get to the consumer. Samsung recently released an update for the S3, I'm still waiting for mine... :confused:

Is it a bog-standard, un-updated ROM?

I guess at the end of the day I'm really just curious more than anything else and so the schlep of going through with a ROM upgrade doesn't seem worth it. Plus, from what I've read, I'd have to go about customising my phone again and reinstalling of the apps...
