What totally fukcs me up is how they change the gallery for the better, but then remove a cool feature it had in the old version, in this case, on 4.1.1 you could sort your photos according to date (day/week), in this one, you can't.

I was just playing around and the found that if you go to Gallery in the top left corner there is a dropdown called 'Albums', click on it and select 'Time'. The photos will then be sorted chronologically.

I tried a couple of Vanilla Roms (CM10.1 and Paranoid Android and SuperNexus).

I am too dissapointed with battery life on vanilla roms. I have been on an awesome rom and will reccomend it to anyone looking to try a new rom. Very stable, great battery life and awesome looks.

Comes with Jkay framework so the notification area is very customizable.

Again cant comment on the S3, but on my S2 I saw no perceivable difference between SuperNexus & CM10.1. I'm pretty sure most of SuperNexus is based on CM code anyway.

Currently RAM usage 447MB used, 343MB free, and thats with DashClock and all its extension running, live wallpaper, Exchange sync, Facebook, Location services, Whatsapp etc. (all the usual stuff). Battery life is decent, under heavy usage with everything left on about 16 hours uptime, with 3 hours screen time using a 1900 mAh battery.

Sounds great. Hell, I don't have much running in the background on SuperNexus and my RAM usage is at 50%.

The UI is quite customizable. The RAM usage is great. I have 40 - 50% free most of the time.
Give it a try and see how it goes?

Its OK to sample the experience of a Nexus phone, but in my opinion CM10.1 is much better. By default CM10.1 is functionally & visually identical to SuperNexus (i.e. pure Google/Nexus Android experience) however it provides way, way more customization functionality.

A small example, I like the newer JB 4.2.x arrangement of having separate Notifications and Quickset Toggles panels, but access to is not very efficient. To get to Quickset you either have to swipe into Notifications and hit the icon, or swipe with two fingers, but two fingers is not possible one handed. In CM10.1 I can reconfigure it such that if you swipe down from the left half of the screen, Notifications as usual, but if you do it from the right, straight into Quickset.

It may be subtle, but pretty important to me. Quickset is where I toggle silent mode and have to do it many times a day (one handed).

The CyanogenMod website lists version 9 as the last stable version. I only see 10.1 available as nightlies, for 'true risk-takers'. The last thing I want is to deal with issues and constantly update my phone's firmware.

All I want is a vanilla ROM with a bit of optimisation for things like network options, capacitive touch lights etc. Does the Nexus 4 really have such limited options? Samsung improve upon vanilla quite significantly. It's just a pity it all consumes so much RAM. I'm busy downloading Omega AOKP. Really hoping it's what I'm looking for.

Look, all I can convey is my personel experience.

CM10.1 nightlies have been smooth and rock solid on my S2 for a long time. Equal to any stock or other custom ROM I've tried.

And dont misunderstand, I dont update almost every day because there's something that needs fixing. I could stop at any time and be perfectly happy with any recent day's ROM since everything I use has worked perfectly for while.

I do it out of interest to see how far the team can push the Google Android experience, watching how they enhance/optimise it over time.

Thanks. I'll give CM a shot if I need to try another ROM. I'm busy using Omega AOKP and it's every bit as awesome as I was hoping. Loads of awesome perks built in, has a kill all button for tasks, recent RAM usage on task page, awesome customisation for notification bar etc. RAM usage is pretty high, with not much more than 200MB free, but the system is buttery smooth so I'll see how it goes.

Edit: RAM use isn't bad. Nearly 300MB free when not downloading, with all the background processes I intend to have.

My wife's S3 upgraded to 4.1.2 last night. I did the Egypt 4.1.1 update when it was released. Did that screw up my country settings, seeing as mine says it's up to date?

I haven't frozen any apps and my phone flies. You don't need to freeze it to perform well, think of it more like overclocking a PC to get that extra 5% speed.

If you stay away from dodgy sources and check for suspicious app permissions on installing you should be fine without one imo.
That said, I do use avast but mainly for the tracking part.

No.

But the anti-virus companies would like you to think so.

If you only install apps from the Play store & Samsung, and scan the permissions the app wants, you will never have a problem.

Charging my S3 is acting up again It's been fine for a few months, but now it's gone back to charging very slowly, even charging the whole night only got me to 70% full. Even before going to sleep I got it to 30% after a couple of hours and that was with the phone being off!

Upgraded to 4.1.2. a couple of weeks ago, but I can't imagine it would only cause an issue now. Anyone else experiencing this of late?

Do you use a different charger? Maybe at work etc? If I use a fong kong charger at work and try charge my phone at home with original charger it takes long.... but if I stop using the fong kong it comes right.

I'm using my HTC charger and it is da bomb!

Looks much better quality than the low budget Samsung one.

Use the Samsung one only for emergencies.
