Thanks for trying. I will keep trying in different locations as well.
Hopefully I am lucky on Saturday.

Here's a clearer picture of the damage.
Quote to repair: R1989.00, a day turn around time, not bad. Thanks goodness for insurance.

Dropped the stupid thing this morning - off the edge of a desk - 900mm high, f'ing screen cracked again!
I'm over this cr@p quality phone. What an absolute load of cr@p. One drop, thing is fubar again. Insurance is going to be charmed.
Sorry to see that.

Don't blame the phone for you being clumsy. Maybe the S3 is not for you. I have a Nokia which might suit you better at home, let me know if you want to swop.

The above was last month.

I wonder if the S4 will be more robust? No-one needs it to be like one of these things suggested in sarcasm (such class :ermabove, but even the apple products have more muscle than the S3.
I truly hope Samsung paid attention to this in the S4. I see it's due out end of the month, think I'll place an order for one instead of repairing this S3.
The S3 performs quite well in drop tests. What floor did it fall on? You've just got to be careful.
Flung mine from the table the other day, luckily I have one of these cases: http://caseaholic.com/2012/06/27/review-speck-samsung-galaxy-s-3-candyshell-case/
Not a scratch. It landed on its back tho so I could have been lucky..
I've had my phone for about 8 months now and I haven't dropped it once. I know that accidents do happen but blaming the phone for breaking when you keep dropping it is a bit daft. It is a piece of sensitive electronic equipment and needs to be handled that way.

The S4 comes with Gorilla Glass 3, which hopefully will be more robust than Gorilla Glass 2, which is on the S3.
My S2 came with the original Gorilla Glass, and has survived a drop on a tar road & a few others.
Looks still just as good as new.

Tiled floor, both times.
The s3 build quality is crap beyond what you'd expect for a premium smartphone. Inexcusable from Samsung, eventually consumers will move on.
Dropped it once from knee height. Cracked in the corner.
7 friends with s3. 4 with shattered screens.
A case should never be mandatory for a phone. It is with the s3
Well there you go. Not many smartphones wouldn't be devastated by a metre high fall onto tiles.
I got my S3 the month it launched. Being careful is all it took for me to not have any issues. The phone looks good, has responsive keys, a good screen, doesn't contort or creak etc. Build quality seems satisfactory to me. I have never used a cover on it.
Consumers won't move on, because on aggregate the S3 and S4 obliterate the competition. Sales figures speak for themselves, and they will continue doing so after the S4 has launched.
