Samsung Galaxy S8

Okay, I have cracked my S8 Plus' screen for the fourth time.

What is the best case to get for it?

Ive cracked mine I don't know how many times never replaced anything though. As long as it still works I'll use it. This screen is far to fragile to fix.

Had my screen replaced by Platinum Repairs through Outsurance today, very happy with the service and the repair. The guy came to my offices in Sandton and replaced the screen in about 45 minutes while I watched.

Cost?

Im about due for an upgrade. Wondering if I should upgrade or fix this one and save the R1000pm.

Through insurance, so I only had to pay access (R780). The guy showed me the sticker price of the screen on the part, R5300!

My upgrade is due in a couple of months and I don't feel the need to upgrade at all.

My battery is still fine, phone is still just as fast and we're getting Pie soon.

I'm not really looking forward to the Pie update since it will kill call recording as far as I know.

Second this.

Regardless of the pie update, my phone is still working perfectly fine.

I love the compact feel of this phone VS the other bulky upgrades available. The screen to body ratio is good so not too much of a compromise.

I just recently started using google pay and Samsung pay and it's been amazing.

@michellej I'm itching to install Android Pie VD2 csc. Is it worth it? Will play store be certified and will my phone choose XFV as csc?

Just an update, I downloaded and installed VD2 CSC Android 9.
To my surprise, everything went smoothly with regard to the device CSC match afterwards.

Device CSC lists as XFV/XFV/XFV.
VoLTE seems active.
Google Play store is certified.

All is well is Pie Land, for now.

Don't you tempt me, I'm sure the OTA is right around the corner.

This clock on the left on Pie is really starting to annoy me, keep thinking I have notifications.

Why can't we just be allowed to move it.

It probably is, but I just couldn't resist lol.
TBH, I was expecting some trouble similar to before, I think I posted in here also regarding flashing BTU and VOD CSC software etc. previously. Previously when I did this with another countries CSC, I had a CSC mismatch, Play Store listed as uncertified and no VoLTE and WiFi calling.
This has very well been good to me. No hassles. I just backed up my files, and did the Odin process with CSC, not Home_CSC.
The phone booted up in English, with XFV listed as carrier in Odin mode.

Yeah there's a few things that will take getting used to.
I for one, not a fan of the huge header when you open settings, messages etc.
Also don't really take to the new 'bubble' look and rounded edges everywhere, especially Settings, just looks too busy.
And then the recent apps screen, have to now swipe up to close instead of sideways.

Fully agreed with all points. Especially that header is a bit much - insane waste of space:

@vorman how is Pie?

The update is available on Vodacom now.

Edit: I already had to fix something myself, why was the clock on the left.

Getting used to it. Have you installed through Vodacom OTA?

I've experienced better battery performance so far. Other than that, nothing to shout about. Just a bunch of UI changes.
The clock irritates me too. Not sure how to fix that.
