Different stories galore. I was told they only came yesterday and were given away quickly. Got an s2 though. Not really complaining
 
Anybody here using the FNB Banking app? I've enrolled fingerprints on the S8 but the app doesn't pick them up for fingerprint authentication.

I guess so. So from free ADH cover to at least R2299 for a screen repair. That sounds like a cash grab.
 
Why does Samsung care about exactly how an accident happened? Are there some accidents which will be deemed not accidental enough?

And fanie, just because other OEMs haven't decided to gouge their customers in this innovative fashion, it doesn't make it a great idea. Presumably in the past they'd included the cost of ADH within the phones' retail costs (because it was entirely free) and now they've stripped that out AND are charging for it over-and-above (so it's not like they reduced the pricing of the phone and then introduced this extra cost that balances out in the end).

No, I don't agree with that... I don't think the prices were inflated specifically with ADH in mind, even if you look in areas that didn't have ADH, the Samsung compared to other phone prices are the same ratio to here.

So let's look at the alternative... Obviously ADH is costing Samsung more money than the additional units they sell because of it... so the alternate is then to drop it completely? And be the same as the other OEMs?

I've never had insurance on any mobile device... what will it cost an S8/S8+ to be added to your normal short term insurance? And how does that compare to this offering?

I agree. I always thought that because we pay so much more in RSA for the same device, we get free cover, i.e. the S8 retails for $726 (R9808.59) in the US and here we pay R15499.00, that $726 dollars would convert to something like R8000 with a good economy so that's that too. You would expect some value for paying almost double the RRP. That's how I thought it worked in the past.

Same here, probably not "inflated", but maybe an attempt to get us to buy locally rather than importing unlocked units for much less, as well.

Apparently, it retails from $650 (R8768.50) upwards. Here you'd pay R14629.00 (in some places). Edit: RRP is South Africa is actually R12099.00.

When you look at it, it's almost in the same markup range.
