Samsung Galaxy S8

And why do you think think that is? LG is really struggling with market share in SA, they need to do this to gain...

Actually, I've seen it's quite a common tactic in many countries for all of the manufacturers/resellers. Samsung in UAE seems to go down a few bob every week, and after a couple of months it's a biggish cut.

Immersive mode.. no root.

Here's a ADB hack i did with Shortcutter app ( paid Play store)
Very easy and straightforward.
Just follow instructions in app for Immersive mode Works fine, no issues so far.
See screenshots for differences
eg Settings.
( You cannot do this with full screen apps in Device Settings.) Screenshot_20170508-121105.pngScreenshot_20170508-121225.pngScreenshot_20170508-121201.pngScreenshot_20170508-121757.png

I cannot see the benefit of immersive mode while just in your phone, like settings, etc. Or am I missing something?

Yes you are missing something.
Immersive mode basically
"hides" navbar and notification in
all apps To access Navbar you either swipe up from bottom of screen or
down. The Navbar will then appear.
More screen. The settings screenshot i only tried to show difference.
Force full screen apps in Device /Settings attempts to do this but cannot.
See other screenshots examples. (No navbar visible or notification bar)

Somet

No, I understand what it does, but I still don't see the benefit as the screen is already quite tall with lotsa space... but to each there own.

will i get screen burn in from normal use... or will my screen have to be on for extended periods of time
is this problem new with the S8, or is it a general AMOLED thing?

General AMOLED thing, though there are many reports with the S8 suffering from premature burn-in.

Normal use shouldn't be a problem. It's usually the status bar at the top, and on-screen navigation buttons at the bottom that typically stay static the whole time.

You're safe. You need to have a phone more than 3 months to worry about burn in :p

I received my S8 at 11:30 am, opening it now :D.

What flip cover do you guys recommend?

I hate flip covers but if I was forced to, I trust every UAG make, it just feels good in the hand.

that would be the "no flip cover at all" cover.

Thanks I use them as I am not a fan of screen protectors and don't want my keys or anything scratching the screen, my S6 screen is still in good condition.

I've got my S6 in a nice classy Ferrari-branded leather cover made by CG Mobile, that I bought in a Vodacom store. It's the closest I'll come to owning a Ferrari :D

Putting your super stylish S8 into one maybe makes less sense, but I've found that flip covers offer guaranteed phone protection while everything else can be a bit hit-and-miss.

Nice how much was it?
