SAOL cancel uncapped packages

So it seems after many months uncapped downloading did not decrease like many predict less downloading will take place on mweb in 3 months time.

Funny thing is that once they get rid of the 60Gb users average usage will fall to let's say 15Gb. Will they then go after the 30Gb users?

Some comments please SAOL. Why go hide in a hole when you start shafting your paying customers?

lol... glad I told them I am canceling before any emails, not that my saol.com email even worked from day one... lol... I was getting just over a 100Gig pm... will miss it... I did like them, lets just hope they don't bill me for next month...

Hi Guys

I can sincerely understand all your frustrations and disappointment.

SAOL released an uncapped offering with excellent service, even when Afrihost and Mweb came out with ridiculously low pricing, SAOL did not compromise it's users quality of service , by adding more people to the pool. Initially we stopped the uncapped as we could see the strain the network was taking , we have a great name out there, prices aside, our service is still 100% better than Mweb and Afrihost, you guys are on the forums , you read the problems other clients are having with Mweb and Afrihost and now other small ISP's,

We are all here to sign up clients and drum us good business, in the begining, we are Kings to you because we could afford to provide you with cheap quality bandwidth, and now because we cannot afford to compromise our principles , values and beliefs, we are bad. But I guess that this is the world we live in.

We were very upfront with you, I told most of you that even if things changed, your price will never go up, we will honour that, and we did, I also told you that we will continue to provide this service to you as long as we are able to financially, and we did. It is very unfortunate for both of us that we cannot continue to provide you with this offer, trust me, we do not want to lose you as a client, it really is very painful to have you leave, Honestly speaking, if Mweb and Afihost did not come us with packages that were not feasible, we would have been able to continue to provide you with the service, a lot of our uncapped users moved to them, thus making the pool much smaller, and costly.

I am truly sorry, that you are not happy,BUT, we still tried to make you an alternative offer, the same quality of service, fixed capped at the same price. Even if you move to Mweb, or Afrihost, after reading the complaints, what do you realistically expect to download or get?

We also , asked that you keep your line with SAOL, and we will give you a free gig, the line rental is still 12% less than Telkom's Price, and you get a free gig. You can use this especially when troubleshooting when you have problems.

All we can do, is give you choices, it is up to you to decide at the end of the day.

Customers are like services providers in a lot of ways, when they cancel services they do not consider that impact that they have on the ISP or vice versa, some just jump around for the cheaper price, others see and realise the the difference and for Quality of Service they are prepared to stay, because it is the wiser of the 2 decisions. This is a huge loss for us too, it was a not a planned source of action, and we regret doing this, but we cannot happily provide when we know that the bottom line is a loss for us. Most of you are businessmen, surely you can understand this. Be happy for the time you had ...you know "better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all"

Once again, I am truly sorry that we cannot continue to provide you with cheap uncapped packages, in fact, there is no ISP that will be able to sustain this for very long, not as long as you are forced to pay per gig. We can however ensure that we keep our name by providing quality service and support.

Thank you to all for your support and understanding .

Well done for having a reply... its pretty low to slate MWEB's offering though and taunt it as a poor service. I think the 1GB thing is a great idea, you can move to another ISP, get a gig just for in case. Thanks for the heads up :)

How long will it take you to upgrade my account to 4Mb? Obviously for those that want to cancel the ISP portion I assume that can happen by the end of this month seeing that SAOL changed the T&C's at one day's notice (this bit I hope the new consumer protection act will sort out in future because it is BS that ISPs can change things overnight).

Unfortunately I doubt if the really heavy downloaders that are bitching are businessmen otherwise they would realise this.

Hi Guys

Upgrades take up to 10 working days.

Yes, we want to keep our customers, it is a no brainer . It is very hard to keep everyone happy all the time.

Also, we did not do any of this overnight. We called everyone we could reach, explained our position telephonically, those we could not reach, we sent e-mails. We did not lie to anybody, we were upfront with you. We also understood that you would be angry and frustrated and want nothing more to do with us, we waived any notice period that you were liable for because we advised the changes.

We also did not change our terms and conditions, we sold this as uncapped, with no limitations for as long as we could afford to, now that we cannot, we are not enforcing limitations, we are advising you that we can no longer offer this product because considering the amount of data you use, we find that we run a loss on this package, for equivalent value, we are prepared to offer you 30 gigs, or you keep your line with us, and we will give it to you at a discount and 1 gig free.

Thank you
Neethi

Spin it anyway you want, this is a PR nightmare for SAOL.

Hear Hear !

Neethi , youre a spin doctor ,
I appreciate that you are responding on SAOL's behalf but this is really unacceptable.
You are also not the only company to sell "all in one" packages,
being treated the way I have , I did not hesitate for one second to cancel the entire package when I got the call to tell me that "im using too much bandwidth" , what a insult.
Its SAOL's fault that they now call paying cutomers to tell them to bugger off..
How do you explain SAOL's lack of planning ?
Telling me that youre doing me a favior by giving me a 30 gig account for the same price is foolish,
Uncapped is UNCAPPED , dont tell me youre doing me a favior by selling me a half assed product for the same price.

Call a spade a spade , SAOL messed up.

So it's SAOL's fault that MWeb dropped the bomb??? That is the cause of this. They are basically saying they can't compete and MWeb can have those clients that aren't profitable for them.

I for one understand the business model. Sure, I was a bit upset when SAOL dropped me. But, their service far surpasses Screamer (who I was with previously). I never once had a connection problem. Never once had to deal with slow speeds. Never had reason to doubt my connection. It was always on, always available and always at the speed specified (maxing at 38-40KB/s).

I think I will keep my line with SAOL, but move over to a 4Meg line and hope and pray MWEB is stable enough at that speed to keep me happy (hoping the line was stable was never a problem with SAOL. And anybody can try to argue with me on that). The 1Gig will be available when MWEB fails me and I need to use my line.

To be honest, if I were using less than 30 Gigs, I would have gone to axxess. R19 per Gig is great. And Axxess has always been the best ISP in my opinion. Low pings for gaming, great speeds and now it's even unshaped (axxess lite package).

Ah well... It was fun while it lasted... Bye bye SAOL...

As is the nature of the beast , Addapt or Die.
Move their provider to MWEB like OPENWEB did ? Arrange for after hours uncapped ? Do SOMETHING other than telling paying customers to leave ?!
Sorry ? is that a bad idea ? my apologies ?

Let me rephrase , SAOL , rework your business model or close your doors. Telling paying customers to leave is a dieng cry , not a saving grace.

SAOL made a mess up simple as that. How can they go and call MWEB's product inferior... My g0d where has the ethics gone all of a sudden. If your business model fails, blame it on the competition and shaft your loyal customers. SAOL sold uncapped accounts and now they can't afford it, and it's the customer's and MWEB's fault... CLASSIC !

It's simple, they should have approached IS about reselling their shaped accounts and then offered to move their clients to the IS shaped product.

I see a lot of anger, it is understandable. Can we keep it civil please?

Chatted to a couple of friends on Mweb uncapped. They get when pushing it 30gigs a month. So you need to compare the 30gigs at R347 vs the 30 gigs at R219 plus frustration for shapping...

Straat it's the 2nd day... don't worry it will blow over.

But your comparison is pretty correct.
