SAOL cancel uncapped packages

The really problematic part is that I have no Idea where to look. Or where to go. How is the rest of the guys, I know Digichilli and Screamer is still useless...that bit I do know...
 
I've done 46 gigs so far this month - no e-mail or contact yet. Obviously if this is true I'm not going to change to a 30 gig account. So what is the least painful way to get your line back to Telkom or over to M-Web?

I'm not going to leave the line with them because it is pretty obvious that this was just a scheme to get people to move lines over to them.

Well, all in it would roughly cost you R400 more than you currently paying but I would recommend a Mweb 4 mb account... In terms of bang for buck it's well worth the extra investment.

There's also the 384kbps 2GB a month Cybersmart offering for R199 which includes uncapped on weekends. That's good for around 35GB's a month...
 
You know what. Thanks SAOL, this was cool, maybe a blink into the future. Maybe one day we will have this again. At least I got my money worth, downloaded close to 90 gigs every month, had an appetite and still do. I will sleep on it, but I will start reading in the morning about MWeb and what they offer. Might even consider the 30 gigs for R499 as well, it is a slightly better deal than the R19 per gb that Axxess have going at the moment.

One has to wonder when the MWeb shoe is going to drop?

I would also like to apologies to everyone that I recommended this package to. If I swayed you to join, it was because at the time I sincerely thought that they had something good going at a great price.

But I will be honest with you guys, I don't buy the excuse given. A friend of mine wanted to move to Mweb and they offered him the same 30 GB at R219? What about those customers? And the once paying R699 and R799? That is what at this point in time really angers me. I don't want to sound bitter, but I get a feeling they culled all simply uncapped accounts at R499 and not just the heavy users...

I used 60Gigs today... And got the call. I think they called as I hit that 60gig sweet spot. And by the way, I was paying the bastards R699. So it's not just the 499 guys that got switched off.

My recommendation: MWEB Uncapped 4MB/s. From a 384K line, going to MWEB 384 would feel like a nightmare (trust me, I have heard complaints from people on MWEB uncapped 384 about slower speeds even with http). You would pay R399(with 1Gig from SAOL) + R539 for the data from MWEB = R938. R39 more than going for MWEB for both line rental and data, but you do have your extra Gig for the times that MWEB might possibly go down... Plus... You 1Gig is unshaped too. Not sure what you'll do with 1Gig of unshaped on a 4Meg line though...

Anyway, I'm disappointed with SAOL.... I used to praise them. And although I understand the business model, I am still quite unimpressed...

The problem is cost...I dont have more than the 499 I currently pay. So All I can do is go to MWeb and be happy about it, save the R100 and pray you get something. Alternatively, keep paying R499 and have 30gb unshapped, which is not bad...it is not great, but not bad either...

Ag I am just sad actually. I think it is rather pathetic actually. No warning, just sorry, no more. This completes a rather bad day...

this whole month was bad sigh ....anyway i hope your day gets better somehow straat :), im getting bad company 2 on payday (finally) and with all the updates just waiting for me i feel i should go uncapped , or maybe just 3 gigs int from afrihost and do a topup and then just stay with my 4 gigs local for gaming. im not really sure which way too look either , with all the news about throttling and what not:erm: i use about 3-4gigs max on 384 but uncapped does sound nice....and with gaming online on an increase ^^ it sounds good to have. i do the occasional download for "stuff" mp3's or youtube now and then, just only so little because its on capped lol .

can anybody throw a sign to point me in the correct direction ?

How do I found out what is the maximum speed my line will support? I guess I will be moving over to MWeb 4096.
 
SAOL can totally go to hell...
The more i think about and discuss this with friends, the more i realise how wrong this move is.
Im going to join the original evil in June[Hellkom], because im looking for a better deal.
I now EXPECT MORE for for my money.
I want a 4 meg line for the same price.
I do not have long to wait...

Telkom are still going to unleash higher caps to users, and SAOL can shove their 30 gigs where the sun don't shine.
I will only accept this at 4mb speed......

I will now express my dismay on hellopeter, as i feel ripped off.

Like others have said its not a bad deal, but at the price im paying vs MWEB, the uncapped was the only thing holding me back...

Well guys. Had time to think for a while and brew on this. In the end, I decided to go with my gut. I cancelled my account and asked them to revert my line ASAP back to Telkom. I would rather buy 26Gb at Axxess than 30 gigs at SAOL...

Wow, I am simply amazed at how many ISP's are sinking themselves these days. Its unbelievable! oh dont forget to complain to the ASA as well :)
 
Hoping not to get this email but preparing for the chance there of, my question is, what will everybody that is leaving SAOL be doing with regards to the line that is with SAOL and which other uncapped ISP will you be joining?
