Screamer ADSL

My account is going, but i switched to Afrihost... sick of this 5 days to download 700mb ****. Time they got their act together

My account is working perfectly, but then again, I haven't disconnected in over 2 days now. So far this week I have transferred about 12GB, according to my own traffic meter. Torrent are running at around 15 kB/s. I do get a significant amount of timeouts on websites, though.

Ooohhh .... up until now http://whois.afrinic.net listed only 41.77.232.0/21 for Screamer, giving them 2048 IP addresses (excluding subnetting overheads). Over the weekend 41.57.0.0/16 has been allocated to them as well. This adds another 65,536 addresses (again, excluding subnetting overheads). So hopefully this means we will be getting our public IP addresses soon.

Still dead as a doornail. 0-2kb torrent downloads... browsing is no fun anymore. Afrihost, flying.

Anyone been playing WoW on EU servers with their Screamer account? I've been too busy to play for a couple months and need to know if I'll have to use another account

The patience of SA consumers truly amazes me ;)

Well, I am mostly happy with my link. Unless the price of capped accounts drop drastically, I cannot afford them for the amount of data I transferred this month. And no other uncapped provider gives this service at this pricepoint. Unless there's a big change in the market, I am unlikely to go back to capped accounts any time soon.

i just wanted to know if there are any drawbacks to public ip's?
also i logged onto the ADSL tracker this morning and it doesnt show any records of any usage. it says "time online for 31/01/10 thru 28/2/10. does this mean that my cap has been reset?

my connection really sucks now.
downloads at 10 -15 KB/s, then breaks and then starts again.

what is happening there?

No idea. Same this side though. And man alive, i am so tempted to cancel and go Afrihost route.

Ok. Totally dead. Nothing happening here... Afrihost here i come to spend more money on you because the connection i'm paying for doesn't work when i need it to.

Adrenalin

I will get someone to contact you on Monday because there must be something wrong with your connection.

Thanks Howzit. Afrihost flies. Screamer doesn't. So I'm guessing it can't be my side...

I agee.... This has been like this the entire weekend. Local and International.

Howzit.. I know you are guys getting our public ip's ready for roll out. Whats the eta in this and why were speeds so bad over the last 3 days.

Update your Reserved posts in the beginning of the thread for us a bit!!

Yea my speeds were 10-15 KB/s this weekend, so pretty crappy. On the ping side of things, it was 100ms slower than Telkom ISP [400ms vs 500ms] which is still ok for what i wanted to do , BUT it all falls flat because you simply can't game with a connection speed to a game server going at 5 KB/s instead of 40 KB/s. Basically i log in, and then lag for 5 minutes until everything loaded , followed by huge rubber-banding issues.

Rubberbanding = when you run for 2 minutes in a virtual world but the server does not receive the data fast enough, the server then "bounce" you back to your original spot because according to the server you did not move or did not move as far as you actually moved. Now i rarely get rubberbanded due to ping, but mostly due to LOST PACKETS and an extremely SLOW connection.

On the Lost packets note, i play Star Wars Galaxies [USA east coast server] and it has an indicator in game showing Ping + Packet Loss. Telkom it is 0% , Screamer it is 15%-30% . Is there anything on my end to reduce this?

So according to helpline tech, the speed issues are related to "upgrades" which have been going from Friday afternoon. The explanation was not very clear on whether it has anything to do with the public / dynamic ip's or not, but they did say it was part of the expansion for new clients. Hopefully we will be up and running by the end of today. I did mention that communication on the matter for existing ADSL clients was again insufficient (actually non existent!)
