Screamer ADSL

so you have a 512line and are basically getting the same speeds i am getting on a 384line +-5kb. That is shocking as i was thinking of upgrading to 512, but now i see as you said "Basicaly paying double for a 384 type speed" I have a telkom 512 account and my downloads speeds i get are from 175 to about 380kbs....... on a 512line..... i wish i had a unlimited telkom account.

So basically seems to be blocked on screamer. http://thepiratebay.org/ Is this their way to prevent torrents being used? Cause if it it then I might sue. Ill sue for the more than a R1000 they charged me for 2GB of bandwidth and I add internet page blocking to the claim.

Screamer is a disgrace of a internet company. Hope the owners go to hell.

I always use my Gmail account's authenticated SMTP.
Look on gmail's SMTP setup/help page for correct ports and settings.

I got no hassles getting onto TPB...

Oh this is fun. Sending emails results in a "DSN: User unknown" for me. The nice thing is that I am the administrator for the domain in question, and Screamer didn't even attempt to deliver to the site, they simply bounced it. And I triple-checked the email address (copy & paste is handy). So I sent an email to the support email address. Imagine my surprise when this email bounced as well. With - yes, DSN: User unknown. And the helpdesk is in voicemail-only mode this morning.

Does anyone here have a working SMTP server I can use with Screamer, please? This has been going on the whole week for me now.

SMTP server: smtp.screamerdsl.co.za
SMTP Auth: Using my Screamer ADSL username and password.

Mmm ... Neels from Screamer says there's nothing wrong on their side, but after the two of us spoke, my mail suddenly started to work without me changing anything. So thanks to Neels and Howzit for their help in this.

im getting 50kbps on a rapidshare download on a 4mb line... is this normal?

What package do you have? It's over a 384's speed (400 kbps), though it's perhaps a tad slow for a 512 kbps package. You are limited to the slowest of your package or your line speed.

i have a 4mb line and a 4096 account with screamer
but i dont pay for rapidshare, does that make a difference?

Yes, that would make a big difference! If you pay for Rapidshares, you can get up to 5MB/s (yes, MEGABYTE/s) in SA. Megaupload was even faster: 10MB/s - unfortunately we didn't have the 600mbps Internet connection to our disposal that long :(
Maybe you should try downloading local content and see if your connection is still as slow. Like from http://mirror.ac.za/ , ftp://ftp.isgaming.co.za/ or http://www.microsoft.com

I'm still wondering if I should get the 384kbps uncapped account from screamers, and run it in combination with like IS local only accounts, so that I can have decent browsing speed for local sites 24/7.
So far from the comments that I've read in this thread, I get the feeling that it won't be a wise choice to go for Screamers? Most people complain that they're paying for 512kbps accounts, but they're getting 384kbps or slower speeds...

I get 50 kB/s on my 4Mbps link with Axxess (using SAIX) as well. You could try multiple simultaneous downloads, or a multi-threaded download and see if you get the same speeds.

do screamer shape torrents? because im trying to download a torrent and the speeds are still unstable. my connection is only connecting at a max of 512kbps, getting average download speeds of 20kbps

Torrents are very slow. In fact everything is slow except browsing

i am getting a few timeouts but internet is still browsable for me. my download speeds have slowed down for some reason. last week i was getting 120kbps on a direct download. know im barely managing 50kbps.

screamer whats up?

Hi All,

I recently got screamer uncapped 384, below are some of the concerns im going to email tech at scremer and hope to get a responce, could anyone let me know if they are also having some of the same problems.
Im all aware of torrent speeds and utorrent issue, but have listed some other things that should just work in my opinion.

Firstly,
ABSA Bank
Absa online banking website, i can get to the login page but thats as far as i can get, when i click login i sit for a million years and nothing happens.
I switched to Axxess ADSL account i still have and can work no problem.

Google Mail

gmail takes a while to load, thats with nothing else on pc running. Anyone think this has to do with security certificates ? as gmail runs of https now ? When on axxess isp this all loads really quickly.

Personal email which sends though its own server.
personal email account, had to change smtp port to altenate port as no
sending would take place on port 25, on axxess this does not happen.
Does screamer have its own smtp srver ? sorry i have not checked this with them , as getting through to support sometimes is a porblem.

Internet browsing
Fifty percent of the times internet browsing is a bit sluggish if you have quite a lot open in terms of web pages, even if they has stopped downloading content.
Its like a yo yo to be honest. I also use net limmiter to check what apps are using what bandwidth, it will show intenert expolorer using like 10kB, surly it should be using the whole connection if nuthing else is running at that point in time.

Torrent Apps
Port forwarding is setup on my router.
utorrent has aweful download speeds, 5 to 10 kb.
bitcommit is fast. 30 to 40 kb ( could any one tell me if your internet conenction gets killed by bitcommit ? when using it i get good download speeds, but some times i cannot even open a webpage even if i shut bit commit down, i have to restart my pc, then i can browse again, does it have to do with somethign related to connections it opens to recieve torrents ? ) The pc im using is a clean install and only downloads torrents, got another pc for work and online games.

torrent speeds are very sporadic, couple of minutes 38kB, then 18 to 20 kB for a while, i understand it has to do with the torrent and amount of seeders etc, but i also tested this with axxess and they where just more consistent with connection speed.

Service
I think there should be more support thrown at the weekends
as when there is a major problem we have to wait for the week to come around before something is fixed.
Maybe they should have a online ticket system installed that a tech can get emails, and respond and update a status board of the problem and eta to fix.

There should be a screamer notice section on your website to list current network problems and when all will be fixed by.

Thanks for reading, will post what screamer replies.

i have the same problems sometimes with browsing. torrents are slow and inconsistent with screamer at the moment, don't know when they will sort this out.
in terms of their service they are useless. i have sent a number of emails to their technical support team since January and haven't received a single reply since.
good luck with getting something out of them!

my speed has been dismal today.
trying to download ubuntu from the ubuntu web site and all I am getting is a measly 10KB/s.

thought of getting the nzb file but no reason for me to pay (using astraweb) to download.

any other ideas as to how to download?

Bye bye screamer

I am officially one of the people that have cancelled their screamer account. I was attempting to download some files via FTP, which ended in tears, as it timed out at most attempts. I have downloaded 20MB from the FTP over the entire weekend. A friend eventually tried and got 200MB this morning alone.

Screamer is absolute rubbish at the moment. I doubt if I would ever use them again, as I would rather have a cap than never be sure of whether my internet would actually allow me to do ANYTHING.

Very shoddy, screamer...
