Seacom launch delayed

This doesn't make sense. Why would pirates now make a difference if everything has been deployed and testing and training are almost finished???

I smell a Telkom...

+1, a month ago they said construction was completed and final testing had begun. Now suddenly piracy delayed it? I smell a rat.

While the deployment in this area has been completed, Seacom still have to splice the cable section deployed from Mumbai, India, to Africa.

Testing of the larger cable system will be finalised shortly thereafter.

The cable section from South Africa to Kenya, including all southern and east African landing stations, has already undergone successful testing.

That's the delay. They are still busy splicing the cable in that area.

I don't mind the wait i just find it interesting people think pricing will drop over night and drop dramatically.

Why would i move? I love this country, sure things are expensive and we get raped but my point is everyone is expecting massive price drops which i cannot see happening. I know reality is sometimes hard for people to handle.

I'm not expecting massive price drops just more cap :) and telkom gave a teeny weeny bit more which is better than nothing and may be a sign of what might be coming. I try to have a balance opinion but being too positive or too negative isn't a good thing but that's my opinion ;):D

Yes that is the problem telkom give us slightly more bandwidth but increase other services so at the end of the day they are still screwing us but people think o look slightly more cap YAY.

Dam Fatbeard and his pirate Crew!!
Dam them to Heck!

Reality... Always the first arguement of the pessimist...

Without going back to it... I don't rmember the article about the completion of the Seacom cable stating that the splicing in the priate affected area hadn't been done...
We seem to read into these articles 1. What we want to. and 2. Much more than is there.

(Damn, I am guilty too)

The longer I read MyBroadband the more I sense that many of the articles are to test the "waters" or even to get ideas... Unfortunately, as mostly pessimists answer we get what they think up.

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Am I the biggest mushroom of them all.

/me goes back to waiting. Been waiting for years so a few weeks is not going to kill me.

Ah another cold day in Cape Town, with another front on the way.
Nothing like a week of depressing news articles to freeze me over even more!Call me mad and stupid....I don't believe this article[or fin24] and it makes no sense.....
Perhaps a huge surprise on the horizon?

What will happen to mybb if seacom delivers affordable bandwidth?
This place was founded on the blood of people lost to satanic rituals, and baby murder in our telecoms sector by mostly hellkom.

Will mybb disappear! Screw this i vote for high prices and IMMINENTtm launch dates! VIVA!

I cried a tear  of utter sadness at the news. However, the piracy thing cannot be underestimated. Those savages  need to be hung, drawn and quartered  in a public place.

Problem is, we just have no idea where to find them! :D

Until then we live on the edge of our seats waiting for the inevitable. :)

Telkom do not announce aggressive broadband pricing on the ... "imminent" (sorry, boys, had to use that swear word) SEACOM launch, and a little over a full day later SEACOM announces a delay ...

Hmmm, methinks Telkom had insider info and therefore had no reason to go for aggressive pricing.
