Seacom launch delayed

People are asking why the attitude? Do you guys not live in SA

Do you not think a country with 4 cell operators would have cheap calls? Yes in decent countries you get cheaper calls with more comp in this country they collude.

I am negative because i am realistic, neotel the saviors are now what? So why would i think seacom is going to make bandwidth cheap? it will make it cheap but we won't see anywhere to close to amount of savings you guys are getting all worked up over.

Ja, um... I think we spoke about that in another thread. Why don't you go talk about this in that thread.

This thread has to do with Seacom being delayed... not the prices.

This is the biggest bs story. I read on the official seacom site a while ago that they had deployed the cable in the pirate infested water. This is obviously a lie and they have used a cover story to hide the fact that they arent ready yet. They said that they had begun the testing so this seems like a load of crap.

Aren't ready or have been paid off to delay the cable release so providers can figure out a way on how to profit from it without cutting prices?

This place has become a chore to visit these days simply due to all the negative people hopping on the bandwagon complaining about X, Y and Z. :erm:

I love how all of a sudden a number of users are experts on the laying of submarine cables and seem to be insiders regarding launch dates etc.

+1

Are you guys not the same who thought telkom was going to drop prices heavily :p

Yea yea when it happens i will say fine i was wrong.

so because some **** in poepfontein downloaded terminator, the techs at Seacom had to lay down their tools?

Well if it does happen, it will be an awesome birthday present.

For once, when it comes to SA broadband, I am attempting to stay vaguely positive.

Let's see how long this lasts...

The cable deployment in the troublesome waters has since been completed and splicing to connect the section of cable from Mumbai to Africa is expected shortly. Testing of the larger cable system will be finalised shortly thereafter. The cable section from South Africa (Mtunzini) to Kenya (Mombasa), including all south and east African landing stations, has already undergone successful testing.

Brian Herlihy, SEACOM CEO, said: “Due to sensitivities around piracy issues, their impact on the project timeline was only fully established recently and whilst I am personally truly disappointed by the delay, it was imperative that strong measures be put in place to guarantee the successful completion of the cable system and the safety of the ship and its crews.

“This setback should however be seen against the herculean efforts made by the team to see this project come to fruition over an incredibly tight schedule of only 18 months. We remain extremely excited and look forward to witnessing the huge difference that affordable, high quality and plentiful bandwidth will have throughout eastern and southern Africa.“

Please read the above again. Three weeks (or possibly less) delay on an 18-month project is not worth the chorus of childish moans (for the sake of moaning).

Rather spend that energy making sure that the local telecoms and ISPs pass on the saving from using SEACOM to us the consumers.

SEACOM should be commended for the transparency they have displayed throughout the project.

Are you guys not the same who thought telkom was going to drop prices heavily :p

I don't recall anyone saying that prices were going to drop "heavily"

Some of us hoped for a small decrease.

But as it was, they left prices the same and upped some of the caps. I'm not complaining about that.

BTW, you are still off topic. There is an existing thread about pricing.

The last article I read said the cable was here and being tested. Why are they now saying it can't go live because of pirates? and why only 3 days before the last launch date I read about on MyBB are they coming out saying they need another month?

Surely if the cable is here we can go live? What more do they need to do thats going to take them a month to do?

Ag, why the worry...If we go by previous reporting on the impact of seacom on pricing, it will now take 19 months iso 18 for us to see the benefit
