Sim Sonke

That person does not know what he/she is talking about. The staterpack needs to be activated with a number before you can port.

Example.... You tell them you want your current number 083/082/073/072 ect ect to replace the 061 number your got. That is how it works and confirmed by the guy that I was in telkom mobile store talking to. If you port and buy a new pack. They also just activate it and get the new number then do the port.

The person that helped you is ill-informed about the porting process unless it changed very very recently
Thanks I'll try a different store then tomorrow.

Yes just did a live chat with a consultant who confirmed that the sim can also be used while the port is in process. All airtime and data will still be there when the port is done.

That's also how I was explained it would work when I went into the store. Its just like the 061 number is deleted and your ported number added.

I spoke to an agent now, an he recomended a solution, he said after a number is allocated its difficult to switch mobile numbers, especially when the other number is on a different network. The solution is to apparently, buy a Sim Sonke starter pack for R1 and ask the assistant to port the number to TM using the new starter pack and my existing number, then have that number ported to my Internet starter pack, as it would now be on the TM network. Hopefully it works.

Very... I will go first thing in the morning to confirm my method of porting that will work. I'm going to port a number to a already active internet staterpack on sim sonke.

Please report back! :) That's what I need to do.

Did you find out?

I went in today. My MTN sim has to already be on prepaid, they then port it to the R49 bundle and rica at the same time; they have to do it all in one go.

Then when that is done then I do the tarrif change myself.

Decided to go in to Telkom Mobile Cavendish in Claremont and low and behold they are no longer there, took a train ride for nothing

Guess I'll have to wait longer.

Hmm according to all the consultants I speak to, you can't change the internet bundle to sim-sonke, and you can't port to an already activated sim sonke.

Perhaps Telkom Mobile rep can assist?

I've got my internet bundle on the Sim Sonke tariff plan, in store I was also told, that one can change via USSD, this must be a case of classic misinformation between Telkom's departments.

In respect of the porting, I was told this as well, and the solution I mentioned in a previous post "should theoretically" bypass this issue.

Hi Xzib1t

Kindly PM us the 081/061 number and the number that you would like to port to SIM sonke so we can assist. Also provide us with your contact number so that we can contact you.

OMW I was just told this morning on Twitter by the Telkom Mobile rep, that if I change the internet bundle to sim sonke, I will forfeit the internet bundle:
"Hi, you will loose your data benefit when you migrate to Sim-Sonke. We advise you migrate after the 12 months data allocation."

How can I get some proper info from TM?
