Sim Sonke

I was called, earlier to say that it was done, however, I need to wait to 19:30 before I can check balances etc, so I'll report my findings then. :D

The TM rep on twitter informed me that what they just did for you cannot be done without forfeiting all data.

I'm just worried I will port my number to data bundle, and then be stuck on 8ta more. If this happens and it doesn't work, can I port my number to a sim sonke?

To be honest, I'm not sure, but I think that you can change your tariff plan once every month? In which case you'll have to stay with 8ta more, until you can change again. I think.

That is lies.... Changing to sim sonke on the internet sim DOES NOT FORFEIT THE DATA!!! I changed it to sim sonke and still received my 200mb data 1st December....

As for the porting the rep clearly proved my point that the port can be done when the stater pack is already activated... In fact when you go to the store they rica it. Get the number that was activated on the sim and do the port.

Why can't I port my number to R49 pack, then tarrif change?
Does tarrif change not work with porting?

Here is what I have done:

Went to a Telkom store.
Bought, RICA'd, and activated a R49 starter pack.
Put the sim into my phone and changed tariff to SIM SONKE.
Now there is already one 'action' on my number (the tariff change) so I will have to do the port tomorrow; they did confirm that this is possible however.

Its apparantly broken atm... I'm not sure if its fixed or not but oomdomy said its not working when he ported....

I hope this gets resolved as I am considering doing the same. Let us know what transpires.

Just to confirm Cavedog's point. I have successfully ported, although my VC sim card still gets the phone calls
and it looks like I've kept all my data as well.

I thought I found a decent network but it seems they all are useless. I have been to two different stores and asked on twitter plus phoned the support and I am still not ported after hours spent today.

Absolutely useless Telkom mobile.

Yeah porting is a ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!! Not even virgin mobile is this bad. I ported to virgin mobile since they also offer very competitive call rates with lots of promo's just like telkom mobile. Was a easy thing to do..... The problem here is telkom mobile does not offer a easy solution to port like smsing.... MTN,Vodacom,Cellc and Virgin Mobile you simply sms the number you want to port from your current sim.

With that method the providers can verify you are the person that owns the sim and the port takes place same day...

I think I will stay on virgin mobile since they offer cheaper call rates and the data bundles are okayish priced. I doubt the 200mb per month x 12 is worth the massive fuss you need to go through to port to them.

Looks like the port did not complete. Vodacom should have disconnected you and updated to routing for other providers to go to your new network..... Sigh not sure how long it will take to fix but you need to call telkom mobile and tell them to update the routintg and contact vodacom porting department to disconnect you vodacom sim.

It seems Telkom has decided to close all their stores on Sunday 'to honour Mandela'.

Now I don't know how closing a store honours someone but it would have been nice to have been told via social media at least that they were doing this.

The consultant told me to phone her on Sunday and she can port me since their sms service was broken yesterday; so now I have been phoning an empty store the whole day.

At least it is only temporary closure. They actually relocated the Telkom shop closest to me! Is it still the case that Telkom retail shops cannot be contacted by telephone?

I see Sim Sonke allows for free calls to ANY other Telkom Mobile number. Before it was sim sonke to sim sonke only.

Now recharging more than R20 gives you free calls to ANY Telkom Mobile number between 7pm and 7am.
R5 gives you 1 day of unlimited calls to ANY Telkom Mobile number and R20 gives you 7 days of unlimited calls to ANY Telkom Mobile number.

Nice change from the sim sonke to sim sonke only.

Thankfully they have telephones now.

Latest in the porting saga:

The tariff change caused something to be 'blocked' so they can't do the port while that is still 'pending' (even though I'm already on a new tariff).
Now they are emailing someone to fix this and then calling me later today (hopefully).

To top it off I keep getting sms's about international roaming being disabled.

Im weighing up my options to port from vodacom to sim sonke,
but want to go via the R49 internet package option to
sim sonke with the 200mb active on my ported number.
Can members here confirm this to be working 100%.
Telkom mobile to Sim Sonke then port Voda Number to Sim Sonke with 200mb per month for 12 months

I can confirm this 100% working with MTN to TM.

Buy a R49 internet bundle, stick it in your phone, when it's activated change your tariff.
Wait a day, then port your PREPAID number to that sim.

Good luck trying to find a competent consultant though. If you have any trouble PM the TM rep on this forum.

So I decided I will pop into the Telkom Mobile store and port the number I wanted to port a long time ago already..... The guy that was very helpful last time was not there but another guy....

I asked i wanted to port in please. He said I must come back tomorrow.... I said to him I'm working we can do the one time pin thing and then schedule the port asap or the next day no problem.

He then replied No sorry sir we are not doing ports today. When I asked him why he said Head Office is closed. WTF has my port to do with headoffice since the port pin is send from the system when he does the port on the system right? Yes must be cause another user was able to request a port today.

When I told him try atleast for me and if it does not work I will come back later.... He just said no they are not doing any ports today and continued laying back in the chair like ready to go to sleep....

Its so SAD that even when customers want to join they are met by incompetent staff. Its shocking no wonder Telkom Mobile is sinking fast. Its a absolute NIGHTMARE to get anything done. They have THE best offers but THE worse staff to help you..... Sad really

Yes the staff in the stores that I dealt with are completely incompetent and lie to your face. I got so angry I just got up and walked out. Thankfully I found one decent person at a different store.
