So I decided I will pop into the Telkom Mobile store and port the number I wanted to port a long time ago already..... The guy that was very helpful last time was not there but another guy....

I asked i wanted to port in please. He said I must come back tomorrow.... I said to him I'm working we can do the one time pin thing and then schedule the port asap or the next day no problem.

He then replied No sorry sir we are not doing ports today. When I asked him why he said Head Office is closed. WTF has my port to do with headoffice since the port pin is send from the system when he does the port on the system right? Yes must be cause another user was able to request a port today.

When I told him try atleast for me and if it does not work I will come back later.... He just said no they are not doing any ports today and continued laying back in the chair like ready to go to sleep....

Its so SAD that even when customers want to join they are met by incompetent staff. Its shocking no wonder Telkom Mobile is sinking fast. Its a absolute NIGHTMARE to get anything done. They have THE best offers but THE worse staff to help you..... Sad really

Yes the staff in the stores that I dealt with are completely incompetent and lie to your face. I got so angry I just got up and walked out. Thankfully I found one decent person at a different store.

Hi, the first store I tried at was the Hillcrest store.

Here's what happened:

I went in on Friday and bought a R49 starter pack; changed to sim sonke, then asked to port.
The guy helping me said there was already an 'action' on the account and so I had to come back tomorrow so someone could do the port. That 'action' business sounds a bit suspicious and I suspect he didn't know how to do it as he initially told me I couldn't change tariff and he phoned someone to find out.

On Saturday, I went in and a lady told me it's impossible to port and that with sim sonke they don't allow ports. I said yesterday they confirmed that it would work, but she wouldn't budge, showing me her screen with some options greyed out.

I then left as was getting frustrated.

The Pavilion store was much better and complements to both Rowena at that store as well as the rep on this forum I eventually got sorted.
 
So i bought the internet starter pack. Switched to sim sonke. 200mb telkom only data still reflected on sim sonke. Will port next week after i have used up my voda airtime. Is it possible to add the all networks data package with the free data telkom networks only ?

Yes you can have 2 bundles at the same time..... 1 tm only bundle and 1 all networks bundle.

Yes, just use your airtime to buy an all networks bundle using *180#.

When you roam on MTN, it will use that bundle, and when you have TM reception, it will use the 200mb bundle. Works well.

Ok my port went through.... Thanks a Million Telkom Mobile rep. It seems so simple and easy. Why does the stores always complicate it for no reason?

Getting some cool perks too. Sim sonke once you joined you get 2 rewards like when staying with them. The 1st one is get 50% back of all your recharges from date of joining until 7 days. 2nd reward is get 1minute for every R1 recharged for the next 7 days. The minutes is to call any network... :)

Here are some facts for people that want to port to Telkom Mobile....

1. You can buy a staterpack and activate it you WILL be able to port your number to it at a later stage
2. You CAN have the R49 internet staterpack on Sim Sonke + have your monthly data + port to it when its activated.
3. Porting is fast and simple process. Take both sims with you to the store or pm the rep. The otp gets sent to your current sim and thats all. No funny forms and hoops to jump through.

My port has been successful. However i am having two major problems
1. iMessage will not activate on my iPhone 5 via my cell number.
Telkom support is useless, they constantly referring me to instructions to activate the service via my apple id.
I did come across this posting on hellopeter. Anyone here know Damelo at the biz centre ??

2. The moment my phone roams on MTN and reverts back to 8ta . SMS sending fails. I have to reboot the phone before i can send an SMS.

I am considering porting from MTN to Simsonke. Anyone got any feedback on their experience 1 month later?

It's awesome once you actually manage to port. Check if your area has TM coverage.
 
I have coverage where I work, but not where I live. What bugs me is that I was unable to convert family members, as they all have MTN contracts.

You could always just buy the R49 internet staterpack. Change it to sim sonke and see how the coverage is and that then if you still want to port you port to that staterpack no problem. It works.

I have tested and do not have coverage at home. If I had friends and family on TM or even coverage at home I would go for it and port my number.

But you do have MTN coverage and SimSonke can roam at the same rates (excluding TM Data) on MTN.
 
Been to Telkom 3 times today to try to port. The sms they sent to verify my number takes 30 minutes or more to go through.

Apparently it needs to go through within 10 minutes or else it has expired by the time it arrives on my phone.

Spoke to 3 different consultants today and nobody seems to be able to help me port.

Shoyld I take this as a sign that it was not meant to be?

The same thing happened with me. Eventually the TM rep on mybb helped me. Pm them
