Skyworth Binge Android TV box

Also - Android 7.0 or 8.0 ?

Takealot says 8.0 ... screenshots are 7.0 ?

The device is only shipped 19 July, could be that they are still working on 8.0 optimisation or the
screenshots were taken pre 8.0

Their website originally said it will be sold at Game stores etc.

Guys, i know it's difficult to judge without having used the product, but should i get the mi box from Kloppers for 999, or order and wait for the skyworth box from takealot?

I was considering future support (like xiaomi just releasing android tv updates) and whether skyworth would have the same support.
Also, i trust xiaomi more to have a quality product (mainly because i know the quality of the phones) vs what the quality of the skyworth boxes would be?
On the other hand the ethernet port on the skyworth is a big positive to have together with 2 usb ports vs the mi box only having 1 usb to be used as an ethernet adapter should i go that route.

I'm willing to wait to the 19th, or could get the mi box at kloppers tomorrow, but don't know.

They have updated the official website http://myskyworth.com/ saying "* Netflix not supported *"

Looks like it's sponsored by DSTV and Showmax... They clearly don't want you to use Netflix.

So personally I will go MI Box rather.

** edit : just had a look at the remote. looks exactly like the MI box one :erm:

Should have given this piece of important info, but actually need the dstv now functionality, my smart tv has netflix app already, I'm piggybacking my parent's dstv. Want to use box for dstv now, kodi and such. Which mi box can do aswell but without an ethernet port...

I would wait to see if it launches in the shops and at which price if indeed. Or just contact them and enquire about the availability.

Should have been called a Naspers Box... if I'm not mistaken Naspers own a lot of Takealot together with Tiger Global.

If DSTV is behind this , they will surely block Kodi too.

Any thoughts on this new box? Price seems great for official Android TV + Chromecast functionality

Any advantage over using dstv explora and chromecast gen 2?

If one doesnt have these then great buy since one device and cheaper than both.

Yup, youll notice I edited my original post after seeing that.

Saw this on Takealot:

"Please note:
Showmax and DSTV are preloaded. There is no Netflix support."

Seems like it has the same specs as the mibox that I have. If thats 100% the case it will be awesome.
Wonder how this will compare to the Mi box?
Hopefully it will come close, dont have a Mi Box to compare with.

Delivery scheduled for 18 July.
Think someone in 1st post said same specs as his mi box?

I find the WiFi very good on the MI box.
Yep would assume no ethernet port because designed to work via wifi. 5GHz perfect for streaming.

Connectivity of mi box:
Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4GHz/5GHz
Bluetooth 4.0/3.0

Since the special is sold out at kloppers I would say get a Takealot voucher and pay R750 for it, thats what I did not bad at all.

I will see if it delivers in performance tho.

Once it's released we can start a "Tips and Tricks" thread.

Why?

It probably has the same issue as LIT box with Netflix. That's kinda Netflix being iffy.

As for DSTV Now and Showmax, it's just a Google certified receive and has it. Unless something I'm not seeing
