Skyworth Binge Android TV box

OK but if I switched on the box with the remote... should that not connect it?
If you switch on with the Bluetooth remote, then it should not come up. If you power on by CEC through your TV remote, it should not come up.

Did you do the RCU update that came with Android 9.0?

Anyone have a issue where the box changes resolution even if auto is switched off. I have my box set to 4k 60hZ, then a day or two later it is back to 1080p. My TV is a 4k tv.

My bad.. skipped this question. Yes RCU has been updated .

Yes I switch on the box with the remote, CEC switches on my TV, and if I press no other buttons then the "remote not connected" screen comes up.

Quite annoying when I put the box on to cast youtube from my phone and the screen pops up minutes later whilst in said video.

@Skyworth Digital Support

Hi bud wanted to know since DStv signed a massive deal with skyworth and no company can sell skyworth android tv boxes anymore, what happens to support for us normal users on here, will you still give support or will it only be if you a dstv subscriber than you will get support?.

DSTV Streama specs in this article:

I don't see anything about Skyworth not being able to sell Android TV boxes anymore. I do know from the Skyworth rep on this thread that they are not going to release another Android TV box until they can get Netflix approval though.

Heard about it from an insider man at mulitchoice, right now takealot, makro, loot, and game nobody got skyworth TV boxes for the last 3 months. DStv struck a big deal with skyworth as they will also be using skyworth support as part of their contract to DStv not sure if my buddy was talking the truth. As I had to buy another TV box brand for my other room.

Skyworth are not going to release any consumer TV boxes until they get Netflix accreditation , the Skyworth Binge TV box is at least 2 years old and Skyworth hasn't released another Android TV box since

All that says, is that DSTV, have Skyworth to make them a branded version of another Skyworth product. Which is not the same as the one currently on sale here and supported in this thread.

Neither does the article say anywhere, that Skyworth are not allowed to sell Android TV boxes in South Africa or anywhere else.

Did you "insider" tell you that it was Skyworth SA, or the "Skyworth Android TV Streaming
Box entity. These are two distinctly different entities. So which one is it, the entity that handles the Skyworth Android TV box, as discussed in this thread, or the entity that handles all other Skyworth products in this country.

I will find out from him, makes sense now was not aware of those two entities.

For support with the Streama unit we recommend you work through MultiChoice Support directly, as it is their software stack and applications. We will continue to support the Binge box, and any future products we may bring direct to market through this channel.

Note that the Binge Box is well out of production and quite far obsolete by this stage and we should expect stock to be running out by now. The Streama is not in fact a Binge box, though the casing design bears some resemblance, a check over the specs will show you the hardware is quite a bit more capable.

Understandably annoying. The design choice here was a compromise, given that the RCU pairing instructions on the leaflet were wrong and the pairing had to change between Android 8.0 and Android 9.0.

Any idea on the pricing of the Skyworth Streama, and if DStv will prevent other streaming services and APKs from being put on the device?

It's the DSTV Streama calling it the Skyworth Streama is like calling the DSTV Xplora the Irdeto Xplora.
All Skyworth is is the manufacturer of the device, MultiChoice will have all the details for the device

Absolutely correct. It is not the Skyworth Streama, but the DStv Streama.
