Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

No - reason I opted for Reolink
There are great videos out there - Reolink are making friends because of the fact that they don't charge monthly for stuff.
That makes them very attractive, I wonder when their servers are going to start slowing down from being over subscribed?!

Most cameras systems want around R150 per month per camera for remote monitoring and recording.

I'm assuming even if you buy 2hnd or older Reolink cameras they'll still be eligible to use their free remote monitoring, each camera will have a hardware ID that Reolink uses to verify them?

Looking at his unit:

Is it free shipping to SA?
I see I would still need to also get a PoE router/switch?
Yes POE switch to power it. But what I prefer as active POE, so just a cat5 cable required.

So if I get 2x Reolink RLC-510A +-R1600 + PoE switch R799 + 2x 30m cat5e R272
Total R2671 excl customs
Wonder what customs will come to?
Does Reolink deliver to my address or post office?

Should deliver to your home address if via DHL
Customs on that would be a couple hundred rand

Typically it is DHL so they deliver to your door. You can get a 4 port POE switch from Scoop for under R500. I have thee Tenda ones, but I think the Scoop version with the AI should be better (they were out of stock when I ordered). The AI detects if the camera freezes and automatically reboots it. Doesn't happen often though.

Customs will probably be R200-R300 for 2 cameras.

Awesome, going to order 2x RLC-410 for time being.

Guessing i should stay away from here?

Many people have ordered the refurbished cameras in the past with no issues. They are not always available though.

Does anyone know what DHL will charge for import duty and handling on a Reolink camera of about US$80?

I'm thinking of trying this camera for now - want to minimize cabling, thus decided to go with something wireless and no NVR. Will pair it with a 128GB SD Card.

Does anyone have experience of this Ezviz Husky Air?

Yes, running one of them outside.

Wifi is the biggest weakpoint of these - usually because your access point / router is somewhere internally inside and the camera might be many meters and walls from the access point.

In my case I have a Unifi access point in my garage with a single wall between it and this camera and about 20m, so it works ok.

EDIT: if you can afford it, get the EZVIZ C3X (with Dark-Figher and AI) -- person detection is pretty good and the color night vision is really cool. EZVIZ C3X AI-Powered Dark-Fighter - Full HD WiFi Outdoor Security Camera | Buy Online in South Africa | takealot.com
