I'm keen to hear your take on the 420s when they arrive. I want to go 8xx series but I can think of three places a 420 will do fine (2x balcony, 1x stoep where the distance is short)... I'm thinking I can save a bit that way instead of getting 8xx all round. I do want the AI / human detection tho - do the 420s do that or does that only start with the 5xx?

The 420s don't do ai / vehicle / person detection. I use Blue Iris to do that. The 5xx series has car and human detection and its improved in the 8xx series

The 420s are decent and reliable AF, no issues with my 6 installed since Nov last year.

As soon as they are up and running I will give feedback. No AI but I will sort that out later if theres a need. For now I just need to upgrade the security around the house and Ive never played with these before so will be nice to see the capabilities.

Ah perfect, thanks. I might get away with them then... my main concern is I have cats - I'm trying to avoid false positives and would love to have alerts for people on the stoep / balcony since I have sliding doors. 5xx it is then. I wonder how much better the 8xx is than the 5xx at close range....

I think the 8xx have better zoom and higher MP so better clarity (I think). 4xx are fine if you don't need to zoom. Can send you some.image / video samples via pm later if you're keen

The Reolink NVR does provide power, no need for an additional switch.

I bought cable from Scoop. They have outdoor cable which is full copper.

The NVR should have POE ports on it, just check how many it supports.
