I was just going to get 100m Cat6 and wire everything myself.
Is there a specific ethernet cable type I need, going to be run inside roof so no outdoor sun exposure.
 
I want to order 2 more reolink cameras but dont want them to use the post office so if anyone else is going to order some and are willing I would like to put my order with and share the costs etc
 
I have been used the old school method of deepstacknand blueiris. Finally have the time to move everything over to BI.

What's the best way to get screenshots of alerts to my telegram bit? Through HASS?

I already have a decent Samsung CCTV 4-channel kit running and it provides 1080p live feeds on a display in the kitchen of both entrances to the property and two decent vantage points that give a good idea of who is outside. They're used pretty much exclusively to see who is at the gates, and the display is above the main intercom we use.

I'd like to supplement that system with some smart cameras though. The current cameras won't do a damn thing to alert us of an immediate emergency situation (Samsung's motion zone/notification functionality is better left off it's so useless - even passing clouds set it off). Facial recognition is available now for ordinary consumer cameras and considering SA's precarious security it seems a no-brainer to get on board.

I understand they tend to work by recording snippets rather than continuously and usually upload to the cloud as well. This isn't an issue with the existing Samsung kit providing the live feeds we need and our internet being uncapped fibre.

These are some options I've looked into:

Google Nest Cam IQ Outdoor
- $598 for two, $349 for one
- Not sure how to ship to SA, may need a mail forwarding service
- Excludes waterproof power adapter for outdoor use
- Crazy expensive Nest Aware subscriptions, but the 5 day one for $5pm is fine for my needs (50% off each additional camera)
- May have issues getting the subscription enabled for SA, a non-supported country
- Will upload 200-400GB per month per camera (24/7 footage though)
- Cameras only connect wirelessly, which might not necessarily be an issue with an extra access point
- Seems to have the smartest people and facial recognition from what I gather

Arlo Pro 2
- $1.1k for a 6-pack and base station from Amazon, ships to SA
- Also no weatherproof power adaptors included
- Mounts need to be purchased separately to cover my needs
- Free cloud subscription included, covers 5 cameras for 7 days
- Records only clips
- I've read that the night vision sucks, even compared to its predecessor
- Not sure if getting subscription to work in SA is a mission

Logitech Circle 2
- $320 for 2, or $180 for 1 direct from logitech.com
- Circle Safe subscription required for smart features and SA not supported

If I can get the subscription to work here, I'm leaning towards the Logitech. The Nest Cam features look great, but the data use is really extreme and would double our monthly bandwidth use. The Arlo Pro 2's supposedly disappointing night vision might render it pointless if it could miss an invasion between 1am and 6am.

Is anyone running smart cameras? Would love some feedback about what locals are using in this regard.

The EZVIZ C3X Night Vision. It really destroys the other ones. You can also use a microsd card for looped storage.

We also use the TP Link ones, really great. Also can loop record via microsd card.

Both have an app and can be controlled via Amazon Alexa.

The ring is overpriced.

Doesn't have facial recognition but , in my opinion , it has something more useful, as soon as it spots something it flashes a strobe and activates the built-in siren.

Facial recognition is totally crap unless you are connected to some large system with everyone's faces captured, in SA quite a few criminals are foreign so its totally useless.
 
The arlo is crap with sound, can only be one way communication. Big flag there

Both the TP link and EZviz does 2 way communication

The Tapo is the cheaper option but pretty good too. You dont pay for the app, or recording as long as you record onto a micro sd card


Ive found it really nifty for recording to see who'se dogs come to poop on my sidewalk, so have one hidden nicely right in front.

You can use them through the glass at night, if you really want to put an indoor one outside, but make sure the window is closed, and turn off night mode as the lights will create glare. rather use daytime mode. you can still see mostly, not as detailed

The c3x from ezviz is really the one to beat. you also get 360 degree cameras from them which you can rotate.

I am still using the aitool and that can save an image on detection. I then use node red to send that image to Telegram. Haven't played with the BI integration, can it also save the image on detection?

I'm also using aitool and it has the telegram option built in. Seems the BI deepstack has matured now and offers a lot of good features. Watch this video for some more info


It seems to save the full res image. I just want it in telegram as it allows for me to go through history very easily

Thanks. I struggled to get the Telegram feature working in aitool. I also don't want to get images everytime it detects something, so I handle that in node red. So I can arm and disarm the system.

I know HASS can do telegram so I might go that route.

Only B800/D800s on refurbish sale. Require a NVR.

Then the battery Reolink Go

Others internal E1 Pros.

Might consider 2 x RLC 410s but prefer the 811A or 812A.

But prioritising some automation 1. Irrigation and 2. Door sensors as the motion sensors too slow.
 
Can anyone guide me on which PoE switch to use with Reolink cameras x4

Notes:
  1. Do not purchase passive PoE injectors as they won’t work with Reolink PoE cameras.
  2. It's better to use high-quality PoE injectors/switches.
  3. We recommend that you purchase the Ethernet cable with Cat5 and above.
