Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

Hi guys,

My in-laws are looking for a camera setup and they've come to me... So I've come to you. :p

What they need:
  • 5 outdoor cameras. The yard is about 22m x 14m. Won't need to view more than 8m away in a straight line.
  • Want to be able to view via an app on their phones
  • Recording ability
  • They said preferably (but not necessarily) wireless (as I can see how that would be problematic for data and power)
  • It needs to be available locally. (Not wanting to deal with warranty issues... Unless there's a really reliable overseas brand that handles warranties well)
  • They're looking for a budget setup and looking for "the simplest thing".
What is the recommended brand and range?
Have a look at the EZVIZ range of cameras: Ezviz. These should cover most of your requirements.
I have this: Outpro C3TN 2k, was cheapest on Takealot at the time. Easy to set up wirelessly using the app and records all footage to a SD card (can be connected to a DVR if required).

Reolink.

Buy on their website and insist on DHL or similar courier service not postal/express mail.

Was looking to buy the Tapo 320WS camera's but will consider these as well, they seem to have all the same features

I currently have 1x tapo indoor camera

Need 3 / 4 outdoor and another indoor

Want to be able to view on a screen in house at any time, like with a dvr

What brand camera can you recommend that is able to view on a screen in house and app on phone remotely

Want to get 1 brand and stick to them and need to know of I need to change

Please advise what works best

Just don't mention the war.

NVR would give you lee-way with regards to camera brands and central local recording
If those aren't needs just the Cameras would work
Need to view 4 cameras on a screen in the house at same time

And be able to view on app on phone anywhere...

People don't always know exactly what they want or need, even if they think they do. both usecases either solution would work

You can connect tapos to some hikvision dvr's using the onvif protocol.
If the hikvision dvr has support for network cameras then you can connect the tapos up to them.
Just be careful that hikvision dvr's have different resolution support.
So if you dont buy a special 4k model, you will have to turn down the resolution on your tapo camera.
I can monitor my tapos from both a hikvision app and the tapo app.

Thanks for the info, have you got a hik nvr? Please send me the model that is compatible, if so

Had read about reolink on previous posts, will have a look there as well for 4 x cameras and nvr

Are they back to sending via DHL yet?

This will support up to 6 as long as you don't have any wired cameras connected. There is also a specific setting you need to enable or else it will only allow 4 or 5 connected initially.

I have the 7108 with 10 tapos connected to it.

The correct way:
Uniview + NVR
Hikvision + NVR

OR wifi route;
Ezviz WiFi
Google Nest Cameras <- best, but expensive
Uniview Uniarc
