Do our networks charge for SMS delivery reports? I have always had this feature enabled and presumed it was free, yesterday someone said to me that there is a charge involved is this true?

No charge at all. Not on contract anyway. Im not sure about prepaid. But at one stage I used to send 1000+ SMS per month and all had delivery reports. There was no charges involved.

There are no delivery report charges at all. Even on prepaid.

Eh... I thought MTN charged for this? On prepaid anyway. Will try and check up on that - do not have a prepaid sim with me at the moment.

I don't know about MTN but Vodacom definitely doesn't.

vodacom - no charge

mtn - you pay the same price for a delivery report as what you would pay for an sms, so basically an sms costs you double what it should if you have reports turned on. thats one of the reasons my wife ported to vodacom.

cell c - i dont know - i'll have to go thru the itemised billing to check.

virgin - i dont know

erm... No

I have been on MTN for the past 8 years and have never ever paid for delivery reports. Would have picked it up because I was sending 1000+ SMS/month at one stage.

Are you on contract/prepaid?

Prepaid: Delivery reports will deplete the SMS bundle in the same order as normal SMS messages, except for Call Per Second Plus customers.

Afaik MTN is the only SP doing this. VC/VM/CellC do not charge for them at all.

I am on contract but I'll have a look into it.

If they do charge it is complete BS.

The wife has pre-paid. I will double check tonight.

They can't say that a delivery report is also a SMS. With the older phones like Nokia 5110/3310 it came through as a SMS but lately the phones just flash a quick pop-up on your screen to confirm delivery. You cannot access that message or anything which means it is not a true SMS. Just a notification of sort.

I am not sure about other phones but I believe Samsung also gets delivery reports in SMS format and not the pop-up like Nokia's.
So maybe it is dependant on the phone????

Easy way of making the SMS data charge a cool R10 000+ per MB instead of the paltry R5 000.00 ;)

No no no, not dependent on your phone at all. The phones just have different ways of informing you about the delivery report and got nothing to do with the way/charges involved in getting that delivery report to you. I'll try and get my hands on a MTN starter pack today @ PnP to test...

So far... MTN does
The truth has been told.
No charges - what so ever.
Look again.. they do on Pre-Paid

It is BS.. I'm going to do something about my complaint.. and broadcast a video on their rip-offs.. all of them

Wow that's some real bulls**t that MTN has the cheek to charge for them, we need them to make sure that their sh*tty network managed to send the message that we already pay a ridiculous amount for.

MTN prepaid have always been charging - I remember they also / still do charge for weather whatever code it was again 50 / 40 if I recall correclty..

I know it is total BS for getting charged but perhaps things have changed now days, I am not on MTN.
