Not a too bad squad.

Why in Odin's name do they continue to pick Kirchner? I would replace Kirchner with Aplon, and Engelbrecht with De Jongh. Would have liked to see Kolisi in there, though. Guy had a beast of a game tonight!
 
Only real omission that upsets me is Siya Kolisi. Yes, I know he's young (20) but he has been immense for the Stormers this season. He should be there ahead of Kankowski.

Furthermore, six promising players have been added to the Springbok squad for the next three weeks. They are not eligible for selection but will train with the squad in Durban, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.

The six upcoming players that will join the Bok squad are Siya Kolisi (flank), Arno Botha (No 8), Frans Malherbe (prop), CJ Stander (loose forward), Francois Venter (centre) and Piet van Zyl (scrumhalf).

Meyer said: “We feel that these players have what it takes to play for the Springboks and they were close to selection in the final squad. However, these three weeks provide the ideal opportunity to work with them, show them what the Springbok culture is all about and hopefully put them on the right track to play for South Africa sooner rather than later. By doing this now, we will reap the dividends going forward.

Still think Grant should be there...he is an ace goal-kicker.

Very glad for Adriaan Strauss though. He should have been at the 2011 WC imo.

Yeah it's very annoying. 13 Bulls, 3 Stormers. Yet the Stormers beat the Bulls twice already this year.

No Aplon, De Jongh, Pietersen or Kolisi. And where is Brussow? What is someone like Kankowski doing there? I don't know. I'm not very happy about the team.
 
I'm happy with our forwards but why oh why does he choose so many bulls for the backline. The likes of de Jongh, Aplon and Grant should definitly be in there. I know they haven't been playing that attacking game plan but that doesn't mean they're kak. And Vermaak? He doesn't even start for the Bulls.
 
Yip, perplexing. Obviously he has a specific game plan in mind and has selected the personnel to fulfill a particular criteria but... some very peculiar selections.

Jano Vermaak? Kirchner? JJ Engelbrecht?? Kanko?? Jacques Potgieter?? Thought he was injured?

Don't know why Meyer believes Wyand and JJ would be more effective at centre than De Villiers and Juan...

Josh has been a tower of strength in a pack going backwards, what has Meyer seen in 40 minutes of rugby this season to suggest Kanko is the better selection???

I like Marcel and Keegan, got lots of pace but a bit small and will be up against quite a big English loose trio.

Anyway, some strange selections, some injury enforced and other suggest a bias towards the Bulls union.

Wonder how many of the players knew they had been selected? Might explain the lackluster Sharks performance tonight.
 
Um, well with only 3 stormers picked i guess this means most of the team should be well rested by the time the tournament kicks off again.
 
Yeah if I were the Stormers players, especially the backline, I would feel a bit shafted.

When I watched the announcement I got the moerin. It's clear as daylight why our players rather play overseas. Their talent goes unnoticed over here while old players and has beens get the nod.
 
You know the one notable exception to the squad is Fourie du Preez, I wonder who's going to be captain now? I'll be bummed if its Spies.
 
My opinion after attending the Bok press conference last night.

It is not a bad squad. Obviously they can't please everybody but there are some weird choices.

For someone who kept going on about experience against the Poms and who wanted to bring Victor Matfield and Fourie du Preez back, it is very strange for me to leave out a guy like Heinrich Brussow. And then selecting Marcell Coetzee and Jacques Potgieter. I'm not saying they are bad players(I actually like both very much) but they have no experience on test level.

Brussow has never had a bad game for the Boks and I believe we will miss him dearly on defence. Even if he does not turn over as much ball, his work rate is immense and he keeps a lot of guys busy.

Also going on about leaving out players because they are not on the best form and then selecting Willem Alberts, Zane Kirchener and Wynand Olivier ahead of guys like Siya Kolisi, Gio Aplon and Juan de Jongh?

The only other thing that bothers me is the exclusion of Peter Grant ahead of Elton Jantjies.

Still 100% behind the boys.
