Springboks vs England 2012 - 3 Test tour

The team has a very stop gap feel about it. With no real time to get the team organised, HM clearly just wants to get through the england series, which has caused him to pick a few b grade bulls players over better stormer alternatives. Injuries to Bekker, Vermuelen, and Schalk is also skewing the picture a bit. All those players would have walked into the team.

Hell, the lack of a captain a week before the game tells you the make up of the team longer term is far from decided.

People just need to chill. HM has earned the right over the last ten years to be trusted for now.

Wynand Olivier (doesn't deserve it but he's a Bull, so got a spot)

Mmmm. He worked very hard for his position (on the first bus home) by giving away possession every single time he touched the ball and doing his predictable "side step dummy run head for the whitewash lose the ball" patented brainfart move.

Hell, I cannot tell you how many times I have been bitterly disappointed by his inclusion. FFS, the man is a walking try machine - FOR THE OTHER SIDE! He costs far more points than he ever achieves.

Why is the team so white? This team needs transformation!

+1. I am dissapointed in more than a couple of Meyers choices BUT there are some great things that he is doing (the young bunch that will not be selected but being shown the ropes, being one of them).

If this backfires than HM will have to take responsibility for his choices.

Yeah, STFU pay your R300 at the door and go watch a half baked Bok team get whipped by a bunch of pommie m other f uckers :p

Told you already I don't rate Meyer but he deserves the benefit of the doubt for now, agreed. I'll gladly eat my words should he produce the goods...

So who do you guys rate beter than HM as bok coach?, i can't think of anyone....
Im also disappointed in a few selections, biggest probably being Engelbrecht, really don’t know what he has done this season...., same goes for Jantjes
Franco van der Merwe?, not sure if the selectors knows this, but Bakkies Botha and Danie did not retire, they are still available for selection.

But all and all i think we have a good team, 90% of the team is good, the other 10% we have to have faith in HM, i know allot of people might argue, but he knows much more about rugby/coaching than we think we do.

So leading the sa conference but only 3 Stormers picked? Interesting.

Well a team winning does not = The best players.

And Vermaak? He doesn't even start for the Bulls.

He is playing behind one of the sure choices in the Bok team no matter the coach....

Vermaak would have been included after Fourie du Preez pulled out. Vermaak is better than Mcleod and Duvenhage (imo the poorest scrummie for SA in the S15). I have liked to see Sarel Pretorius here but ja due to him losing a bit of form and playing in AUS....

Willem Alberts
Marcell Coetzee
Keegan Daniel
Bismarck Du Plessis
Jannie Du Plessis (dunno, apart from one game, has been very lazy)
Eben Etzebeth
Ryan Kankowski (Struass (baardman))
Juandre Kruger
Werner Kruger
Tendai Mtawarira
Coenie Oosthuizen
Jacques Potgieter
Chiliboy Ralepelle
Pierre Spies (Would have picked vermuelen or Strauss, but atm he knows the game plan and has experience)
Adriaan Strauss
Flip van der Merwe (Think he is a walking Yellow card but same thing, has experience and due to a lack of another lock having a great season :()
Franco van der Merwe

Bjorn Basson
Jean De Villiers
JJ Engelbrecht (Do not believe that he has done enough to get into the Bok setup just yet.)
Bryan Habana
Francois Hougaard
Elton Jantjies (Should have been Grant)
Zane Kirchner (No idea why, I do not rate him)
Patrick Lambie
Lwazi Mvovo
Wynand Olivier (Would not have picked him at all. de Jongh defends better and imo is the better runner.)
Ruan Pienaar (Is on form and does provide cover at no. 15 and 10 in a REALLY big pinch)
JP Pietersen
Frans Steyn
Morne Steyn
Jano Vermaak

@ Lament nothing wrong with the starting XV.

It's some of the fringe selections that are a bit perplexing. He may be an astute coach but anyone who's watched more than 20 minutes of rugby this season will know that Zane is no international fullback. Gio is possibly one of the most dynamic attacking fullback/wings in world rugby at the moment. He has barely put a foot wrong this season and I don't recall seeing miss a single tackle so that argument is mute.

In addition to that what has JJ Engelbrecht done this season to suggest he is more worthy than Juan De Jongh??

Then there is Kanko. I love him, he is a great 8th man but he has barely played this season where Josh Strauss has been epic in a lost cause.

One could go on, Jano Vermaak/Elton Jantjies combo is questionable although I reckon Elton with good go forward ball could surprise and impress. He's got a nose for the gap, great off the mark acceleration, not scared to tackle and impeccable kicking at goal and/or for touch. Having said that Grant, Jean and Juan would be a more settled flyhalf/mid field combination.

As for coaches:
1.) Rassie Erasmus - Genius, when Mallet was coaching the Boks he only ever asked 2 players for input, Henry Honiball and Rassie.
2.) Naka Drotske - Look how well Cheetahs do year after year despite losing all their big guns to other provinces.
3.) Nik Mallet - What a waste that this genius of the game is commenting from the inside of a studio!!! SARU and its fragile ego prevent him from returning
4.) Jake White - Look at what he has done in a short space of time at the Brumbies. Another genius of the game. SARU and its fragile ego prevent him from returning
5.) Heineke Meyer - I still maintain his success with the Bulls was on the back of some of the finest players the world has ever seen. Bakkies, Pierre at his prime, Victor, Fourie Du Preez, hell, Robinhood could have been coaching the Bulls, they still would have won everything... Would love to see a teamsheet of the Bulls team 2002 - 2008, who's who of SA rugby...

U20 World cup kicks off this arvie. Where's the thread???!!!!!!! You really want to know the health of the sport in a particular nation, watch their u20's...

I am sorry. I like HM as a coach but this squad really does scream "my province first". It backs up why the Lions have lost so many players to other teams over the last few years. Jano Vermaak should have been a bok a couple of years back but he is no longer at that level yet miraculously he is picked after moving to the bulls. Olivier and Kirchner are no where near the best in the country. What has Brussow ever done wrong.

Coaches have always favoured players from their teams and this sort of selection only encourages more players to move to the bulls (or sharks) to get "noticed".

What is really ironic is that the two teams with the majority of the players were both beaten over the weekend.

WTF is lambie doing in the team? Kirschner, Aplon and Joe P are all better than him.

Captain just announced.

Jean de Villiers

Probably the best captain in the said squad. And good that it is announced for the next 3 tests only. It gives coach time to look at options and see how Jean fares.
