Edit: We are based in Fourways, Johannesburg.

The company I work for wants the staff to further their education. We need to suggest courses/training/certifications to management for them to review. A week long course during working hours is acceptable.

We are a small team (5 devs) and have recently done both iPad and Android applications with a Java-based back end.

We are considering doing a few Microsoft courses to help get partnership (and therefore cheaper licensing fees for Windows/Office, etc.); possibly the basic .Net and WinPhone 8/XAML courses. It was suggested that the Sun Java certification is only useful for consulting purposes.

What courses should we consider? Are there any places we should avoid?

Thanks,
Peter

Disclaimer: I have not taken any Microsoft Mobile courses - my experience is based on courses such as C#, BizTalk and others.

My experience of Microsoft training courses is not the best: the trainers follow the course [outlined in the training manual] using the Microsoft-supplied examples.

As a result one tends to taught how to "modify the examples" rather than "during this course we will develop xxx from scratch", i.e. the basics are frequently overlooked.

My .02c worth and, as always, YMMV

Your .02c is appreciated!

Many thanks: I always feel vaguely cheated when I am required to change the given example by deleting a word or two and I don't even know how to start the development IDE ... :D
