Telkom 8 Mbps ADSL trial

LOL so now you can blow your 4 gig pro cap in 30 mintues brilliant...! as long as it is strictly Http traffic....

Friggs, have you reported back to them with regards to your issue and the fact that it was related to the Netgear router flash?

I would still like the 8MB's line. I see definite benefit in it.

So, at the end of the day it wasn't the line...... It was my Netgear.

For some reason I forgot that about the same time as the 8meg upgrade I also updated the firmware on my Netgear, I was busy playing with ways of using traffic splitter and basically messing around. I updated the firmware and forgot all about it, tonight I remembered, found an older firmware version and reflashed my Netgear. Problem solved. My line attenuation and SNR is still exactly the same (35db and 13.1db) but I am again getting pings as low as 13ms if I join a SGS COD4 server. So looks like I could have stayed with 8meg and it would have worked fine but to be honest I don't actually mind, 4 meg is fine and the extra 4 is overkill for me (and my cap).

So ya, 8mbps doesn't fail, Netgear's firmware fails :) .... and so does my memory cos I completely forgot about updating the modem.

OK, so here is a little tidbit for you guys!

The ADSL upgrade trials have gone well and we should see the new up to 10 mbps adverts out in about ten weeks.

Good news also for you lower speed guys... all the packages are getting an overhaul so you can also expect to see a free upgrade.

Don't ask me where this info comes from... just be glad. :D

@Garyvdh: So 10 weeks for the advert and then any guesses to when it will actually happen? I mean the 'next generation' adsl adverts have been on for over 4 months...

Ja, the whole process was already supposed to be implemented in October last year. It was delayed because of Interface problems at the exchanges. But ten weeks to advertising stage means it goes live then. so just hang on... this year is already flying past. Gonna be Easter soon.

@Garyvdh: Is it just going to be speed increases? No extra bandwidth to use? Not that I'm being fussy 8/10mb is more than enough - I'm happy with 4mb even!

I'm not positive, but the rumour is that "Telkom is working on new product offerings" This makes sense because we know that Telkom wants to be able to offer IPTV soon. And they cannot do that with caps as they are. But even if they are not planning anything before their usual updates in August, or by the end of the year... they will soon be outclassed by the two new cables going live this year. More bandwidth is coming by the end of the year. Of that you can be sure.

just did a speed test and this is what i got, wow, 17mb!!

tried again after that test and i got an 8mb result
