Telkom ADSL 8Mbps :)

It may change with ADSL2+ thought. ADSL2+ can do more with a noisy line no?

I got a linksys WAG160N, can't seem to find my SNR and Attenuation anywhere in the 194.12.... am i looking in the wrong place or something?

I had an not so interesting chat with someone from telkom..

I asked him : when will the upgrades take place? (the upgrade of entry level adsl speeds)

He didn't know anything about any upgrades.

According to him our small town had just been upgraded to have access to adsl.

Some weeks ago a fibre optics technician stopped at our guest house and I talked with him, he said that our town had access to an ancient fibre optic connection that's been there atleast 20 years lol..

Nice how telkom fscks people around

doesnt seem so your noise margin is borderline

Hi There,

and what about my line detail, any good?
Looking at the supplied image above I can reach about 22mbps?

Down:
relative capacity occupation: 45%
noise margin downstream: 25.0 db
output power upstream: 1.0 dbm
attenuation downstream: 17.5 db

Up:
relative capacity occupation: 55%
noise margin upstream: 12.0 db
output power downstream: 7.5 dbm
attenuation upstream: 12.0 db

Many thanks

Does anyone have a link as to where Telkom exchanges are, really want to look in to upgrading to a 4mb line and possibly an 8mb when it comes around

No, there is no such thing outside of Telkom.

Not quite true. Due to co-location and site sharing, most of the other network operators now have a list of all telkom's exchange sites.

Oaklands (sandwiched between Houghton and Orchards) in Joburg

Unless they have installed an UMC close to you recently, you are being serviced from the Houghton exchange. All that could prevent you from 8mbps is the distance between you and the exchange.

Maybe I should have said publicly seeing the likes VC, MTN etc will probaly have a STAC database.

True! With Eskom power issues the network operators are struggling to build new sites where they require new AC connections. Hence the sharing...

Would the exchange be one of those blue Telkom box things you see on the side of the road, or is it a building in a sub-station sort of way?

Oh ok thanks Optimal, maybe I will take a walk around the suburb and look for a building with that blue and green sign on it:sick:

okay, a bit off topic...
how long does it take to download a 350MB tv show on a 4mb line using Telkom or whoever as an ISP ? i would appreciate some help.
